Had to look up Space Sticks.

Looks like they are off the market again. Too bad. Looked like it could have been an interesting addition to the evacuation bag.

I read a SyFy story a while back where a colony ship with hundreds of people aboard were going to a new planet.

None of the original were left, as it was taking a couple hundred years to get there.

The ones left had lost their ancestors’ level of knowledge and had separated into two ‘tribes’ each one cannibalizing the other, even though there was plenty of food stored aboard but they didn’t know how to open the storage bins.

They had lost all knowledge of the outside of the ship and thought that it was the entire ‘universe’. Kinda like the Easter Islanders....................

The guy that crossed Antarctica alone on skis and pulling a sled failed on some other long expeditions because his food didn’t supply his energy levels. IIRC the crossing was not supported by any food drops ahead of time.

He spent two years(?) developing the right food for HIS body with a doctor and food person and then was able to go solo across Antarctica.

I agree. It’s a one way trip regardless of how it is sold to be. As long as they have many supplies and options to overcome unknowns they may survive a long time, possibly thrive there.

Bread?

Agreed, it'll be very expensive.

Substitute some Beef Jerky and Fruit Roll-Ups for Space Sticks and everyone will be happy in their misery. ;)

The “Shangrila diet” has you take a tablespoon of olive oil before eating. I read about it twenty years ago.
