A viral social media video about a $25 McDonald's "deal" recently sparked an online debate about California's minimum-wage increase.
A TikTok user who posts videos under the username @shannon_montipaya shared the video on March 27. She was in the drive-thru of a Southern California McDonald's location when she saw a sign for a 40-piece Chicken McNugget meal deal, which also included two large orders of fries.
The price of the meal bundle was $25.39 — including sales tax, it would come to roughly $27. In the video, the social media user lamented that the meal didn't even include a drink.
"OK, so it's $25.39 for 40-piece nuggets and two large fries," she said. "You couldn't even throw in the Sprite? You couldn't even throw in, like, a medium Sprite in there? Holy crap."
While the meal is designed to serve four people, it demonstrates how prices at the fast-food chain have risen over the years. A recent study by FinanceBuzz found that McDonald's prices have increased by 100% since 2014.
Ten years ago, the average price of a 10-piece McNugget meal was $5.99. Now, the meal usually goes for $10.99.

“The price of the meal bundle was $25.39”
Intended to feed four people, or $6.35 per person.
In FL that goes for $18.99
“$6.35 per person.”
Yeah, so for that, each person gets half an order of large fries and 10 tiny nuggets (look at the size of them next to the large fries).
No skin off my nose, as I wouldn’t throw money at fast food chains anyway, much less WokeDonalds.
That’s the point of the law. There are no “unintended consequences.” They are all quite “intended.”
About tens years ago our McDonald’s had a special one night per week for a few hours. It was a 20 piece nugget for $3.99 and you could get two of them.
“A recent study by FinanceBuzz found that McDonald’s prices have increased by 100% since 2014.”
And I’d wager that TWO THIRDS of that price increase is since 2021 when Brandon screwed everything up.
They are obfuscating things by throwing in the low-inflation Trump years.
4 people? Two would be staring at nothing while two get to have 1 lg fries and one of the napkins of nuggets each.
Are you kidding, throw in a medium Sprite? The overpriced soft drinks are they’re biggest money maker.
As a young’un, 5 in 1960, I remember dad
pulling into a McDonals in his ‘57 Olds.
No drive-thru back then. He ordered at the
walk up window. Burgers were 10 for a buck.
Large order of fries was a nickle, as was
a large coca-cola.
McDonald’s nuggets aren’t edible, are they?
They're so bad and they don't care, so I think this one will have to close it's doors soon. Especially now that they've raised their prices to ridiculous levels.
They probably wouldn't break down in a compost pile, if that helps.
1 large McD’s fries = 150 grams
The nutrition label on a 10/lb bag of Walmart potatoes shows 30 servings at 148 grams each. That bag costs $5.57 which comes to <0.19 per serving.
20 piece nuggets = 323 grams
Walmart’s skinless boneless chicken breast (the most expensive piece of chicken) = $2.67/lb. There are 456 grams per lb. So, the box would be 71% of a pound and that’s counting the breading and oil costing $2.48 if made at home.
$2.48 + $0.19 = $2.67 each or a 40 piece McD’s Bundle = $5.34 and no tax on grocery store bought food for a savings of $21.65 for homemade. Guaranteed you can get the chicken price waaaay down.
Suck it, Californios.
You voted for this suck.
You mean the leftovers they sweep off the floor at the factory?
“Pieces parts FUSED!”
“No skin off my nose, as I wouldn’t throw money at fast food chains anyway, much less WokeDonalds.”
My “normal” is scratch cooking at home. It’s not as inexpensive as it used to be. But there’s a lot less additives involved.
