Some regard Social Emotional Learning (SEL) as an educational necessity; others as a Trojan Horse for neoMarxism indoctrination. Based on my experience as an SEL Specialist in Austin Independent School District from 2014 to 2021, I know that true SEL is important to learning and that the SEL in schools is a Trojan Horse for neoMarxism indoctrination.

CASEL identified and defined five SEL competencies:
1. Self-awareness: Recognizing one’s emotions and thoughts and reflecting on their influence on behavior, including the ability to assess strengths and limitations, and possessing a well-grounded sense of confidence and optimism.
2. Self-management: Regulating one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations, including managing stress and impulses, and motivating oneself to work towards and achieve goals.
3. Social awareness: Considering and empathizing with others from different backgrounds and cultures and understanding social and ethical norms for behavior.
4. Relationship skills: Establishing and maintaining healthy and rewarding relationships with different people and groups, including communication, listening, cooperation, negotiating conflict constructively, resisting inappropriate social pressure, and seeking and offering help when needed.
5. Responsible decision-making: Making constructive and respectful choices about personal behavior and social interactions by considering ethical standards, safety concerns, social norms, consequences, and one’s own and others’ well-being.

At the end of 2020, CASEL officially rebranded SEL as “Transformative SEL” (TSEL), which it defined as,
a process whereby young people and adults build strong, respectful, and lasting relationships that facilitate co-learning to critically examine root causes of inequity, and to develop collaborative solutions that lead to personal, community, and societal well-being.
The rebranding required redefining the five competencies:

The left sure transformed this like they are trying to transform the rest of society.
I’ve observed a trend in young people. The ones who seem to get into Jesus for real, develop strong relationships with other Christian teens, and have purpose in life seem to be the ones less likely to lose their mind over little things or be swayed by their social media feed’s madness.
We need to give kids a solid education through high scho, the skills to stand on their own two feet, and the confidence to develop a career and/or start a business. Government needs to remove the obstacles to that and not continuously get in the way.
They feared that our home schooled child would not be properly socialized. We announced our plan that if it was a boy, we would hire some bigger kid to beat him up and take his lunch money. If it’s a girl, we’d hire a group of snotty girls to tell her how ugly she is and make fun of her clothes.

They should define the term “children”
They should let the boys out periodically to romp around the playground and burn off some hormonal pent up energy to retain classroom focus. Girls too but separate from the lads.
Enforce courtesy and polite discourse.
Endorse generic scholastic reading and literature programs. Daily before the noon meal followed by general recess.
Reading, writing, arithmetic with atice outside supervised breaks.
This country will never be fixed in any way unless the leftists are driven from the schools and the federal government is removed from education entirely.
The teachers are nothing more than baby sitters and
indoctrinators now.
We have a sloo of departments that need to be shut down and the power the bureaucrats wield needs to be removed.

Amen. As parents the only “ thing” we need to do is teach our children about the existence of a God almighty, Prayer, and to give Thanks every day.
All else will fall into place, as designed.

Kids need to learn are the basics: don’t steal, don’t lie, do your part, respect the rights of others, don’t cheat, live with honor etc etc... They do NOT need to know how to examine their ‘feelings’ at the expense of others.

Totally agree! We’re in a war. Things will get worse until Christ’s return. We try to warn those who will listen and improve things and show Jesus’ love where we can. Ultimately… we’re not trying to find our life here. Faithful while awaiting his return.
There is a disproportionate amount of parents who willingly turn their children over to Marxists to indoctrinate.
Many parents look at school as a taxpayer-funded daycare and aren't going to give that up. The kids face indoctrination in the schools and apathy from the parents who don't care to teach them anything (if the parents know anything worthwhile anyway). Any gaps are filled in with propaganda, mind warping, and drivel from the television or social media.
Too many parents simply don't love their children enough.
