Why Pope Francis’ Favorability Rating Is ‘Tanking’ in the U.S.
Breitbart ^ | 4-18-24 | THOMAS D. WILLIAMS, PH.D.

Posted on 04/18/2024 3:00:17 PM PDT by dynachrome

Pope Francis’ favorability rating has been dropping constantly among U.S. Catholics over the past 10 years, according to an April Pew Research Center poll.

From 2015 to 2021, the pope’s favorability rating dropped by 7 percentage points, from 90 percent to 83 percent, Pew found. More telling still, perhaps, is that in the last 3 years his favorability rating has declined by 8 more percentage points, to a record low of 75 percent.

Practicing Catholics who attend Mass at least once a week are the least supportive of him, giving him a favorability rating of just 71 percent. A mere 26 percent of all Catholics say that they view the pope “very favorably.”

As a point of comparison, the favorability rating for Pope John Paul II never fell below 91 percent during his 27-year pontificate and half of Catholics viewed him “very favorably.”

While the Pew Center did not offer an analysis of the causes of Francis’ loss of favor, the president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Right, Dr. Bill Donohue, suggested Tuesday that it is not difficult to connect the dots.

Donohue, a sociologist, notes that in the past three years the pope has endorsed civil unions and allowed the blessing of homosexual couples, leading to unprecedented pushback by clergy from all over the world.

"How can I help but see what is in front of my eyes? Two and two are four." "Sometimes, Winston. Sometimes they are five. Sometimes they are three. Sometimes they are all of them at once. You must try harder. It is not easy to become sane.” https://t.co/tK1QpBouZc

Those are the "least" supportive? Joe Biden would kill for a favorablity rating that "bad". Last I heard, he's at 44%.

Tanking?

He’d have to come up for air in order to tank.

I’m am a practicing Catholic, or at least was until this guy took over. While i used to go to mass EVERY week, i now rarely go except for Easter. And the reason is simple- frankie is a complete F-ing hypocrite and i have no problem saying that to people- even my diehard sister in law who goes to church every day. His positions on issues are what they are- yet frankie is completely hypocritical.

He berates Americans who want to protect our border yet never demands his home country Argentina, which has some of the strictest rules against illegal immigration, open up their borders and accept the caravans of illegals.

The same time he was berating and insulting DJT, frankie praised the Castro brothers, who killed tens of thousands of their own countrymen. He never speaks out about the slaughter of Christians in predominantly muslim countries yet has no problem running his mouth to criticize America.

I will not support a “leader” like that... And before anyone wants to get on me for not going to church anymore- i still pray every day.

I agree.

On the TV and radio discussion call-in show Called To Communion Dr.David Anders was asked: “If a Pope’s health declines due to a medical or mental condition in which others conclude he is not able to carry out his duties, is there a group at the Vatican that can have him step down if he doesn’t want to?”
Dr.Anders: “No.”

Not the Pope.

Benedict was still Pope until he died and a new Pope was not selected after that. Once the conclave of the College of Cardinals does that—presumably after Bergoglio himself dies—we will have a new Bishop of Rome.

Currently, the Chair of Saint Peter is vacant.

I’ve been telling that very fact to the anti-pope Roman Catholics on these forums....there simply isn’t a way to legally remove their pope per Roman Catholic canon law.
