Townsend was so animated, Daltry so young.

(Good version, i prefer later iterations with the electric violin).

I quoted this song to myself due to my vax-skeptic stance during covid.

“I don’t need to fight to prove I’m right
I don’t need to be forgiven”
- especially after that Emily Oster article in the Atlantic

Great song. Saw The Who in 1987 on their 25th anniversary tour or something.

I did very much enjoy, MtnClimber, as I have always been a fan of the Who. However, I must also note that Pete Townshend, who was unceasingly more than a bit weird, seems desperate for attention in that video.

This was about 4 months before Moon died.

I think it might be his final performance with the band.

I didn’t know it at the time, but Who’s Next changed how I listen to music.

Thanks Columbia Record Club. 🙂

Never heard of it. Like that tune “Teenage Wasteland” instead.

Remember the “name the last 10 songs we played and win today’s Grand Prize” radio contests?

A-hole DJ’s would always throw that one in there to thwart people.

Ooh, no, sorry, the name of the song we were looking for was “Baba O’Reilly!” Thanks for playing!

Numerology of Meher Baba in the style of Terry Riley.

Seems intuitive for the title.

I enjoyed! The Who were one of my favorites. Five decades ago; hard to believe.
Thank you.

Pete was drinking pretty heavily at that point.

Out there in the news, I fight for my views
I get my back into my campaigning
I don't need to fight to prove I'm right
I don't need to be forgiven, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Don't try, don't raise your eye
It's only media wasteland
Melania, take my hand, we'll travel 'cross the land
Ignore the ire and don't look past the lawfare
The red wave is here, the disenfranchised ones are near
Let's get together and beat them back with flair

Media wasteland, it's only Media wasteland
Media wasteland, oh, yeah
Media wasteland
They're all wasted

Thanks for posting, great music from a great era.

Townshend with that Hiwatt backline, 3 heads and 6 cabinets. I had a single 1975 Hiwatt 100 watt amp, a DR103, it could deafen humans and kill small animals. I’ve sold all my gear, but if I could have one amp back, it would be that Hiwatt.

One of my very favorite R&R songs of all time. I once saw a band at a local music festival play this. We were about to leave, but then I heard Baba being played. Turned around and went back to watch. It was going great until they got to the part with Daltey playing the harmonica. They stopped and said, “ok, that’s all we know.” Played some other song after that. Most of the crowd, like us, left.

Folks, if you don’t know how to play a whole song, don’t cover it publicly until you get it down. That was so hard. They showed such promise then let their audience down like we had just jumped off a cliff together.
