“Heir to Ronald Reagan” Sarah Palin to meet “Iron Lady” Maragaret Thatcher
The Examiner ^ | June 13, 2010 | Raj Rajagopalan

Posted on 06/13/2010 6:49:20 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

If there is any politician in America who has the “Reaganisque” charisma, it is undoubtedly Sarah Palin.

In the American political landscape of the current decade, there is no other politician who has the same appeal as Ronald Reagan; there is no other politician who agrees in principle with Ronald Reagan much more than Sarah Palin does.

Conservatives in America are hailing Sarah Palin as the “Reagan in a skirt”.

Conservatives in America voice it day and night that it took a weak and incompetent President like Jimmy Carter to create the most popular Conservative hero Ronald Reagan. And they see weak and incompetent President Obama as the next Jimmy Carter, creating the next Reagan in Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin is all set to meet Britain’s most popular Conservative icon, and first female Prime Minister, Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher.

Sarah Palin’s team approached Margaret Thatcher, and requested a meeting. And Thatcher happily agreed to host Sarah.

As the UK’s Daily Mail indicated:

'Palin’s big hero is Ronald Reagan. In US Republican folklore Thatcher and Reagan brought down the Soviet Union between them. That’s why Maggie is so important.’

When Reagan started out, Jimmy Carter ridiculed him and thought Reagan was dumb. Reagan ended up defeating Carter in a massive 44 state landslide victory in 1980, making Carter a one-term President. President Obama better not do the same mistake that Jimmy Carter did. President Obama better watch out for Sarah Palin, the next Reagan dressed in a skirt.

"Folklore?" Okay, jourbalists, who brought the Soviet Union to it's knees? Ted Kennedy? LOL

Of course, Lech Welesa and Pope John Paul II had a lot to do with it, along with all the hot (Vietnam, Korea, etc.) and cold war soldiers over the years

Having met the Lady Baroness Margaret Thatcher myself (approximately a dozen years ago), Sarah will thoroughly enjoy this. The Lady is the epitome of classy, honorable, and stately.

This is a bit over the top. Reagan's popularity wasn't restricted to conservatives. Also, Reagan was very popular outside the US in the non-Communist world and was seen as a strong leader.

This is the one thing I wish Palin fans would stop. She is not Ronald Reagan. To say so diminishes his legacy, and limits hers. Sarah Palin is Sarah Palin, plain and simple. She will be defined and remember for who SHE is, not who she reminds us of.

I hope there is some serious content in there as well. Thatcher has been through everything they had the guts to throw at her (why so much less for her than for Sarah? I’d like Sarah to learn that answer, which I don’t entirely know), and Sarah may learn some of what she needs for the political side of the role that is being thrust upon her.

I got to re duct tape our cardboard Sarah up again.

2012 is coming soon.
That darn dachshound ate her feet off so she does not stand up on her own anymore.

The only bummer is my Son will want to put up Romney right next to her.

The UPS man mentioned to me that he still waves to the LEO in the window knowing its a cardboard stand up. : )

I hope Sarah runs in 2012.
I still have all the Sarah banners and stickers from her last run.

I don’t have a clue on who she would pick for a running mate but I bet she would choose someone that would bat it out of the park. JMO

who brought the Soviet Union to it's knees?

I heard some journalist claim that Gorbachev was the one who freed Eastern Europe from the grip of Communism.

I'm not sure how much of that will take place, given Thatcher's health/mental incapacities now. However, Sarah can learn much about grace, style, and speaking for impact....and only when it matters.

I'll never forget meeting the Baroness. At the time, someone asked her, "what do you think of Hillary Clinton?" Her response? "I don't."

Mitt Romney will now have to get Breast Impants for sure just to stay on the Radar Screen.

Don't Forget she will meet with BiBi as well.

How about an audience with the Pope? Does anyone know if she has that on her docket yet?

`I don`t.`

If only I could say the same. Thinking about Thatcher and RWR, I am sad now. There`s no one with their stature in politics now. No one. And we need `em.

Agreed. It`s suffocating to be constantly compared to giants and prevents people from seeing a person as they are—each move gets compared to someone who`s already attained legendary status. Reagan and Thatcher weren`t the `next` anybody, they were unique. That`s what we need now, unique originals, not retreads which never live up to the hype others try to force on them.

Thats right.

Just like Stephen Strasburg is not Nolan Ryan..because he can throw 101 mph.

Everyone likes to compare everything to the past. Sarah Palin is Sarah Palin.

and with due respect, Ronald Reagan is dead. His time came and went. Just like mine will, yours will and Sarah Palin’s will. Lets live in the here and now.

No, not prior to the election, nor in the first few years after. He was considered a joke, most of the world media followed the line of the US MSM. Remember back then after Watergate, the MSM had considerable clout and influence.

I travel with work, and have lived for extended periods in several countries, and even now, most around the world remember him mainly as a war-monger or for Contra-Gate. I kid you not. It gets me mad as hell.

The Kennedy's are of course lionized. As is Clinton. Believe me, America is the last Conservative bastion in the English speaking world.

There are more differences between Reagan and Palin then similarities. But she definitely shares many qualities with him. Important qualities.
