Donald Trump took his colorful campaign to Nashville on Saturday, where he courted a constituency that some say he is tailor-made for: the tea party.
He is competing in a presidential straw poll and addressed the National Federation of Republican Assemblies, a group that boasts it was "the tea party before there was a tea party."
Trump's appearance was highly anticipated at the conservative gathering: As a candidate, he's hitting the same notes -- anger at conventional politics, contempt for Washington and distrust of special interests and lobbyists -- that propelled the tea party movement in 2010.
"You have not been treated fairly," Trump told the gathering Saturday. "You know, people talk about the tea party, and you talk about marginalized? At least I have a microphone where I can fight back. You people don't. The tea party people are incredible people. These are people who work hard and love the country and they get beat up all the time by the media."(continued)

FYI
You ain’t tea party material, Donald.
I could only find his live speech on UStream and the sound was not that good but I think he called Jorges Ramos “Jose Raos!” hehehehehehe!!!
I think you have a misguided idea of what the TEA Party is. It stands for Taxed Enough Already and is made up of grass roots people - not just Republicans, but, Democrats, Libertarian and Independents. Basically, people who are fed up with the elites and status quo.
I do not in any way have a misguided idea.
I have a memory of the early days and the rallies that defined the movement.
The Tax people were just one faction of a movement, and the larger movement included people whose primary concerns ranged from things like religious liberty to securing the border to second amendment activists promoting restored rights in democratic strongholds and open carry.
The movement was so named in recognition of the Boston Tea Party during the run up to the Revolutionary War.
The cute slogan by people whose primary concern is their pocketbook does not give them primacy or leadership in the movement. Capiche?
Donald isn’t someone who meets the criteria to appeal to a broad swath of the movement.
I think you're wrong - everyone is blinded by his money, but he's been Tea Party platform all along.
Here is the whole rally:
So says you.
Any Patriot is a member of the Tea Party—Trump is a natural. You only need to love the USA.
He competed in a presidential straw poll here -- winning handily with 52% of the vote ...At Saturday's straw poll, Cruz finished second, capturing nearly a quarter of the ballots cast, while Paul finished fourth with less than 4% of the vote.
Just last night, Sarah Palin - and it doesn't get more "Tea Party" than Sarah Palin - interviewed Donald Trump last night on the One America News Network (OANN).
If you follow the link above, it will be clear that Sarah Palin considers Trump a huge asset to the Tea Party movement.
Ping!
I have one theory to explain Trump’s conversion on so many issues.
I call it conservatives in the closet syndrome.
I had it, when I was around semi liberal family members, of which there are very few. I would talk much more moderately.
Then I realized why am I embarrassed about choosing traditional marriage and thinking having transgenders in the military is insane etc.
And I owed it to them and myself to be honest And now I am brutally honest :)
Trump had a brand and he’s a smart man. Conservative positions would have absolutely hurt him financially, as we see now.
Perhaps he held his current beliefs all along but did what many popular people do. Lie.
I could be wrong.
However, politics really should be kept out of business. I've heard more than one CEO state that he would never reveal his political affiliation because why would you want to piss off as much as half your customer base?
So it's easy to see why Trump would play both sides of the fence during his business career. Especially in New York City.
Some of us purists might think that's being phony and a fraud but it's the way it is. When you are a businessman, wearing your politics on your sleeve is not good for business.
Looks like Trump has reached a stage in his life when he is free to be who he really is.
No, I think you may be close.
I have respect for the actor Vince Vaughn. He had conservative beliefs and has not been afraid to say them on talk shows or interviews.
The mother from “Everybody Loves Raymond” is very pro life and is successful.
I know there are others, but I’m talking A list actors under 50. Sara Michelle Gellar is conservative and attractive :)
Gary Sinise is conservative. James Gandolfini was liberal but had great respect for vets and did specials with them.
3 Doors Down conservative band that played for the troops.
OK. I’m done babbling lol.
Based on what?
I believe that those who use FR without donating to keep it on the air, and who don't donate to a specific campaign are the ones that aren't Tea Party material - aim your shots at them - they deserve it more than Trump.
