Cruz Very Close to Frontrunner Trump if Others Exit While Clinton Out in Front
The Jewish Press ^ | March 16, 2016 | Lori Lowenthal Marcus, U.S. correspondent

Clinton bested Sanders in all the March 15 primaries except for Missouri, and Cruz is now Trump's only competition for the Republican nomination.

With the exception of Gov. John Kasich taking his home state of Ohio, Donald Trump won or is projected to win all the March 15 Republican primaries. Trump came in second in Ohio. However, the race is very close in Missouri, with Cruz only a quarter point behind Trump with 62 percent of the precincts reporting.

Although Sen. Marco Rubio came in second in his home state of Florida, he saw the writing on the wall and suspended his run for the Republican nomination when he could not edge past Donald Trump.

Hillary Clinton won or is projected to win in all the primaries, Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, Ohio and Illinois. As this article goes live, Sanders is ahead by two points in Missouri, with 68 percent of the precincts reporting.

Some pundits are likely to point out that if Rubio pulled out before today's primaries and if Kasich was no longer in the race, Cruz would have won every one of the Republican primaries. Had only Rubio pulled out, and if all of Rubio's voters voted instead for Cruz, the Texas senator would have still won Illinois and North Carolina, and come within two points of Trump in Illinois and within one point of Trump in Florida.

The delegate numbers get very close between Cruz and Trump if Rubio and Kasich were to send their delegates to Cruz.

Impossible.
He doesn’t win East Coast and he doesn’t win West of the MS.
He gets Utah.

Is your estimate a little low?

I thought I read Missouri gives 15 to the winner then starts to apportion. Actually I don’t know the rules but 538’s live blog was suggesting
Missouri
Trump - 42
Cruz - 5
Illinois
Trump - 60
Cruz - 9

If NC creeps up to 30 he’s up to over 240 on the night. However Missouri and Illinois really aren’t known just yet.

He has garnered quite a few of Carson, Huckabee, Santorum and Walker’s supporters without their endorsements.

Trump is going to be annihilated by Hillary in November, but that is ok because he will bring down the entire rotten, corrupt GOPe-led Republican Party with him.

The Republican Party got corrupted a long time ago and is heading to the garbage heap of history where it belongs.

I think Trump comes out better off losing Ohio and keeping Kasich in. He and Calgary Ted can continue to split the anti-Trump vote for a while longer.

With the eligibility issue hanging over his head, we can be thankful that Cruz is a legal genius. If he is on the ticket as VP, he should be able to fight any of the DemonRAT efforts to disqualify him. I hope.

Trump just took MO with 100 percent of the precints reporting a bare maority of some 1600 votes. Chalk up another win for Trump tonight 5 out of six.

What Cruz wants is to be no lower than 2nd place. With Trump’s negatives so low right now, we will have no idea of his true national strength for awhile. If his negatives begin to drop —I think these are false indicators—then both Kasich and Cruz may make difference decisions about the value of the VP. If either guesses Trump will lose, then they will start looking to 2020. Kasich is now very strong in OHIO. He can afford to wait to.

And Trump gained a lot of Jeb’s supporters as well

You seem to think that voting against someone is a winning strategy, but in the long run it doesn’t work

People want to support a candidate, not hate the “other guy”

That is why Cruz is losing

2nd place is 1st loser

Very nice

A great night for Trump

He buried his competition tonight

Kudos

When will Cruz drop out?

Cruz will not be the VP choice. VPs are chosen to enhance general election chances, and that is not something Ted can provide.

Whatever

Gaining one more point over the other team is not a “statistical tie” either, that is loser talk

That's the thing. The combined Not-Trump delegates could give the edge to Cruz at the convention. Let's hope.

That’s not what Trump wanted. He wanted inevitability.

Keep shutting the barn door and wondering why the party is shrinking

Think about it, Trump is bringing in new voters, the Republican party needs new voters to replace the ones that are dying off

No No. Kasich will lower Trump’s numbers. This is Kasich’s mission from now to the convention. Trump begins to wane at this point.
