The race for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination is now open
The Washington Post's Politics ^ | November 27, 2016 | Chris Cillizza

Posted on 11/27/2016 8:55:43 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

By Election Day, ambitious Democrats had already resigned themselves to an eight-year wait for their chance in the national spotlight. Hillary Clinton was an overwhelming favorite against Donald Trump and, assuming she won, running a primary challenge against her in four years would be a fool’s errand.

Then Clinton lost.

Although this most stunning upset in modern presidential history has produced (and will produce) a thousand aftershocks, one of the most unlikely and important is that the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 is now open.

That opening is made all the more remarkable by the fact that there is simply no logical heir (or even heirs) to President Obama or Clinton — no obvious candidate waiting in the wings to step forward and rebuild the party. Vice President Biden appears to have decided that he is done running for office. As a two-time loser, Clinton is done, too. And after that, the bench is, well, pretty thin.

Politics, of course, abhors a vacuum. So candidates will run. Here is a look at who they might be:

Sen. Cory Booker: Booker has been a national figure since the mid-2000s, when he was elected mayor of Newark. His résumé — football at Stanford University, a Rhodes scholarship — is impressive, and many Democrats see the young (he’s 47), charismatic, African American U.S. senator from New Jersey as the second coming of Obama. But the campaign that Booker ran for the Senate in 2013 was more competitive than it should have been largely because of his shaky performance. He may start the 2020 race as the front-runner, but he still has lots of questions that need answering....

I don’t think Michelle Obama would ever run though.

Naw, that "First woman pResident" thing will never work for a transvestite.

If Trump is able to clean up the system - remove the dead, duplicate and illegal voters and get some sort of voter ID enacted before the mid term election the demonrats may have a hard time indeed.

Michigan, thanks to so many people fleeing Detroit may have just become a swing state.

Pennsylvania might be a red state if they remove the corruption in Philly.

I think Wisconsin has moved from deep blue to purple or pink.

Ohio looks to have moved to a solid red.

If Trump really cuts the bureaucracy by 25 percent like he says he wants to the Virginia may become red again.

Combine that with 4 Supreme Court appointments and the left could have problems for years to come

The issue is going to be discipline and getting candidates that are not torn apart by the media.

Just my two-cents worth

Don't forget gun grabber.

Regardless of who is nominated, Cillizza will give them a 147% chance of winning.

In all seriousness what if they put up Jim Webb or someone like him?

Could they actually cause some damage to the recently won over Trump vote?

Why was Corey Booker not chosen over Tim Kaine? He checked all the boxes and would have brought more enthusiasm to the ticket then creepy Kaine.

I lost a bet that Booker would be her choice. I still have no clue why she went with Kaine. VA was that important that you throw away the African American support.

Maybe they discovered something during the vetting process. Her VP decision never made sense.

The duct tape which holds the various factions together in the Democrat party, is starting to fray. I expect a battle to overthrow the old white folks from their positions of power, and replace them with “diversities”

Kristin Gilibrand of NY... she would have run had Hillary not been the front-runner and she’s got everything Hillary minus the ethical baggage.

And depending on whether she wants to get into it, the race is between her and Corey Booker or another minority. Apart from that Democrats don’t have a bench and any recognizable national figure.

Certainly no one like Obama on the immediate horizon.

Cilizza’s myopia is typical of the blindness of the cartel. Cillizza names only professional politicians.

The Democrat bench is big and crowded with businessmen from Silicon valley and Seattle area, and businessmen throughout the country. Imagine a Mark Cuban or Daymond John. Imagine a Bill or Melinda Gates.

But the cartel still is isolated in the beltway and has learned nothing. Maybe it is better for us to allow them their delusions.

Maybe not, with all those life support technologies available nowadays, she could be alive, just not mentally capable of being POTUS, unless her family euthanized her or figured not to call the ambulance and let her go.
