NRSC chair: Trump's wall 'not the right way' (National Republican Senatorial Committee)
The Hill ^ | March 9, 2017 | Olivia Beavers

Posted on 03/09/2017 12:15:54 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee is rejecting President Trump’s keystone proposal for border security, saying “a wall is not the right way to proceed.”

During a Wednesday telephone town hall with constituents, Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Col.) said building a wall is neither the most cost-effective nor the most secure way of closing the southern border.

"As far as the wall goes, I believe we have to have border security, but I do think billions of dollars on a wall is not the right way to proceed," Gardner said.

"I don't support a tariff to pay for any kind of wall,” he added.

Politico first reported the town hall audio.

Gardner previously expressed doubt about the wall in late February.

“I don't think the wall is the best idea," Gardner said at the time

The new audio suggests his opinion towards the wall have solidified, no matter “what somebody said” on the campaign trail.

"We do need security on the border, that may mean personnel. It may mean a fence. That may mean an electronic fence," Gardner said. "But we shouldn't just build a wall and add billions of dollars because that's what somebody said should be done."

Trump repeatedly promised to build a border wall during his successful White House bid, claiming Mexico will cover the costs, which are expected to easily top $1 billion.

Gardner's office did not respond immediately to The Hill's request for comment Thursday.

Asked Thursday if he thought Trump could deliver on getting Mexico to foot the bill for the massive project, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) responded, “Uh, no.”

Cartel money.
That is why these greedy senators are opposing.
Term limits is the only way to get rid of these political elite who will take bribes and sell out the rest of us.
Do you actually believe that the majority of the congress has our best interests in mind?
Nope.
They are in it for what they can get monetarily no matter where it comes from.

Good idea, let Trump schedule a few rallies in some home states and then see who is tripping over their own feet to get out in front of the wall.

The wall is not merely a wall, and it is much more than concrete and steel erected as a barrier. Such a boundary marker establishes to the world that “America begins HERE”, and the wall is its symbol. Nor is the physical barrier alone the only component of the wall. At specified intervals, there shall be a GATE, through which honored and respectful guests may be invited to enter, and in between, there shall be posts where hard scrutiny is directed at those who would attempt to bypass the designated entry points.

Of course, there shall always be those who abuse the invitation to enter, and attempt to either evade, or simply storm the gates, for which they may expect resistance from the American authorities. And those who, once inside, go on a rampage, behaving badly, in ways they would not be permitted to do in their own country, which is almost certain to draw a LOT of negative attention, they would be subject to a sometimes VERY harsh response. The fortunate ones are merely deported.

No wall? Okay, deport illegals with no court hearings. If they have been previously deported, hold them in custody until there is a court opening, then imprison them before deporting them again. If President Trump is not permitted to stop them from returning, make them not want to come back.

The level of Republican stupidity never seems to wane.

Has there ever been a political party so totally unimpressed with winning and success?

If I thought these clowns had any pull left in the party...I’d probably be mad.

This is as much about enabling drug and contraband trafficking by drug cartels as it is about immigration.

Drug cartel coyotes are just drug smugglers who have found a way to have their mules pay them for transporting drugs into the US instead of having to pay them for the job.

The wall is apolitical. That is why we desperately need it.

OF COURSE the wall is the right solution!

I am fully in favor of the wall and guards to man it, but the wall will not keep illegals out unless the price they pay if caught, exceeds the rewards they gain by crossing. This whole racial profiling cr@p lets them live here unchallenged and anyone with a brain knows it.

Mexico will pay for it directly or more likely indirectly. Our savings alone will pay for it many times over. These A-Holes are exactly what impedes MAGA.

Gardner’s been a disappointment. His state offices have been on voicemail all week. Coward.

Senator Gardner was never a Trump supporter and never will be. Before him was Udall, not much difference between the two.

And if the wall is not built and the next Obama-clone gets into office and orders ICE to stand back down, then what?

Exactly !

It can be argued that the primary purpose of Trump’s wall is to protect citizens from corrupt lawmakers, lawmakers who probably see illegals with diseases as a source of votes.

“Mine fields with single barbed wire fence, warning signs in Spanish.”

A little too East German? That kind of barrier affects traffic in in both directions.

Walls plus military & BP does it for me. Also, maybe give folks living on the border, such as ranchers, a remedy against public officials who don’t discharge their duties in regards to the border area, and corporations that hire the illegals.
