Democrats' Georgia blunder: 'Resist Trump' is not a winning strategy
Fox News Opinion ^ | April 19, 2017 | Douglas E. Schoen

In the special election for Georgia’s Sixth District Congressional seat, Democrat Jon Ossoff has fallen short of the 50 percent threshold needed to win the seat out-right, triggering a runoff in June.

Ossoff’s candidacy and failure to secure the seat in the first round of voting, despite holding an $8.3 million war-chest, is the quintessential example of why the Democrats’ strategy of resisting Trump at every step is imprudent and that the more effective way to win in a solidly Republican district is with a positive agenda of change.

Today, the Democratic party is deeply fractured. While some pragmatic leaders continue to fight for the traditional Democratic values which have long-defined our party, the “resistance” to President Trump is more concerned with obstructing Republicans and has no plans to enact the economic policies or health care reforms that hard-working Americans deserve.

In his Congressional campaign, Jon Ossoff has generally said the right things, often appears to be positioned as a moderate, and has even suggested that he would not be “campaigning across the district talking about Donald Trump at every event.”(continued)

Time to send Karen Handel a donation.

I don’t think it’s time for sending a donation, I think that Karen Handel has to campaign to Trump’s voters if she wants to win the election. And if she doesn’t, I really don’t care if she wins or not. Votes aren’t owed because a particular letter appears after the name. Campaign for those votes; it should be the central lesson learned from 2016.

I’m really surprised that the Democrats poured so much money into a single special election, for a single congressional seat. This seat alone is not worth that much. Even if the Dems. win it, it won’t flip the balance in the House between the parties, or make any other meaningful impact in the balance of power. Even if this Dem. dude wins it, in a low turnout special election, he will have a tough fight winning re-election in the regularly scheduled 2018 mid term elections.

In deciding where to deploy resources, this seems like a big blunder to me, for the Dems. to go all in on this one. Even if they could win it, it just gives them bragging rights, and not much else.

The Democrats view this race as their 'Doolittle Raid', a strike at the Enemy necessary to rally the troops and encourage those on the home front.

$8.3 million? "A mere pittance!" is the Democrat/Hollywood cry.

They poured money into the race because they needed a narrative the "the country" was turning against Trump and that spells doom for him in 2018, unless of course, he "moderates" his views (i.e. act like a Democrat).

The Democrat Party will NEVER go back to the old idyllic lunch-pail common-man type of party (even that was largely a myth) - they are bought and paid for by globalists.

It’s all about perception for the dems coming off a staggering national defeat. The win will signify a loss for Trump more than a loss for the pub party. As was the case when the numbers were tallied during Obama’s reign. The snowflakes will say, “Look we stopped the Trump movement”. As the Cruz polls come out in Texas, they have him trailing as well. It only takes a single voice to start the momentum of a movement. In that voice lies the perception that yes it can be done and so it shall. The dems need this win in GA more than anything they need right now. Lets hope the pub opponent can pull together the votes that were siphoned off in the field to put another nail in the demoRATS coffin.

The Dems are on the defensive. Lost the House, cant retake the Senate, lost the WH. They are in shock and weary. Defeat has started to set in.

They are desperate to not be viewed as losers, cause losers ..., well lose. So it is by this desperation the pressure builds to show something ANYTHING positive. To that end, they dumped what they could, more than they should, into a small little election - a special election at that. They cant afford to lose so it is a fight at all costs.

I hope Handel knows which side her bread is buttered on.I liked her as SOS for Georgia getting the voter ID passed. That took care of the rampant cheating that was going on.

They need a morale booster after years of losses, and they need ad material for fundraising.

As for the money, the teachers’ unions will simply replenish the Dem coffers with taxpayer funds. The Dem Party, after all, is nothing more than the political arm of those unions.

The media will pounce on this as a “Trump loss” if Dems eventually get the seat, but never blamed Otoken for the massive losses on his watch. Like BJ Clinton, apparently coming in to office with Dems controlling all aspects of government and leaving eight years later with the opposition controlling everything is hailed as “popular”...

The Democrats are more interested in forcing a radical liberal agenda down the throats of voters who feel many of the Democrats ideals is repugnant. While most will tolerate homos they don’t necessarily want to see them up on pedestals. Most do not want perverts going in to the wrong bathroom especially when their kids are in there. Many are tired of Democrats fascination with Muslims and illegals as well.
