The messy reality of Donald Trump’s poll numbers (They've no clue what's going on)
Vox ^ | July 5, 2018 | Ezra Klein

Posted on 07/06/2018 3:14:43 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

On June 25, Axios’s Mike Allen and Jim VandeHei took readers inside Donald Trump’s “winning, cynical plan.” They argued that “the more President Trump does, says and tweets outrageous things, the more his critics go bananas and the better he does in the polls.”

The evidence for this was that Trump had hit 45 percent in Gallup’s presidential approval tracker — a personal high for him, though he’s since slipped back to 42 percent. More impressively, Trump’s approval among Republicans is hovering around 90 percent, and special counsel Robert Mueller’s disapproval among Republicans was up to 53 percent.

“It’s arguably the most cynical strategy imaginable,” write Allen and VandeHei. “But that doesn’t mean it can’t be successful politically.”

I should say at the outset: I believe Allen and VandeHei have this one wrong. I don’t think Trump’s poll numbers show he’s found a successful political strategy — quite the opposite, in fact. But this is a difficult debate to have because it requires defining what success would look like for Trump, which means settling on some counterfactual sense of where Trump’s poll numbers could and should be....

Reality is pimp slapping poor leftists in the face and they have no idea what to do. This shouldn’t have happened, they think. The country belonged to them, they thought.

These two guys sound like they smoked a joint before they wrote this.

It reads like a parody of Abbot and Costello imitating Cheech and Chong.

These people don't understand Trump or why his supporters support him so strongly. They don't have a clue.

They're just stabbing around in the dark.

Only 53% of (R)s believe that their president is being hosed by R. Mueller? What are the other 47% watching?

We finally have an American President acting like the President of the United States of America instead of President of the New World order and they think it’s a cynical ploy.

Trump has not managed to become a popular president. In fact, he seems to be squandering an unusually strong run of peace and prosperity. If Trump and his advisers are fooling themselves into believing otherwise, that’s a more interesting fact about the administration’s internal echo chamber than it is a convincing analysis of reality.

Talk about dead to irony !

Yeah it’s only 98% of the media, academia, blogs, Hollywood, the music industry, Broadway, authors, unions, Silicon Valley, the Democrats, NeverTrumpers and GOPe attacking him every day, why can’t he get some traction in the polls?

By outrageous, those two Partisan Media Shills mean, things that melt the snowflakes. Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.

Inside the strong Trump GOP poll numbers is a huge segment of longtime party members who have hated the leftist media for decades.

Trump is the only modern day politician, if you wan to call him that, who dared go straight after the media and hammer them for their intellectually dishonest reporting.

The old guard has lost it’s headlock on the voting public. Despite over 90 percent negative reporting for month leading up to the election, 63 million people turned out to thank Trump for mocking the fake news boys and destroy their leftist plans for America.

His SC nominee next week with be an in your face pick just to spite the phony media talking heads. The mid terms, a referendum on the first two years of Trump.

Wonder how that’s gonna turn out???

When are these people going to realize that they are irrelevant...we don’t want them...we don’t need them.

Hey, Ezra from Vox, you are totally clueless. Trump is keeping the hostile press in "tabloid" mode in order to expose them. And he's a New Yorker. And a success outside of politics, and the first politician since Reagan to do exactly what he said he would do. It really doesn't get any simpler than that.

But, you can't see past your own echo chamber or believe that real people support Donald Trump. Well, we do, and his loyalty to us is rewarded by receiving ours. No amount of spin, negative stories, hand-wringing or outright lies by the media will break my spirit. And Trump is no GW Bush, so perhaps the left gets to lose this time around.

So stupid, they’re basically discounting Trump’s numbers against the good news that he’s presiding over. We’ll see how that works out for them in 2020.
