Trump Republican running for Florida governor resigns from U.S. House seat

Rep. Ron DeSantis, a conservative Republican running for governor of Florida, has resigned from the House to focus on his campaign, he told House Speaker Paul Ryan in a letter delivered Monday.

DeSantis, 39, has represented Florida’s 6th Congressional District since 2013. He faces Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, a Democrat, in a closely watched race this November.

“As the Republican nominee for governor of Florida, it is clear to me that I will likely miss the vast majority of our remaining session days for this Congress,” DeSantis wrote. “Under these circumstances, it would be inappropriate for me to accept a salary. In order to honor my principles and protect the taxpayer, I officially resign from the House of Representatives effective immediately.”

A spokesman for Ryan confirmed receipt of DeSantis’ letter.

DeSantis’ announcement comes as Gillum, who has seen an influx of support from progressives and national Democratic groups, has opened up an early fundraising lead for the general election. According to Florida campaign finance reports filed Friday, Gillum has raised $4 million since winning the Democratic nomination Aug. 28. DeSantis raised $516,000 during the same period....

What can you expect! They handed me a 10 year drivers license in Florida at age 78, with no driving test, no written exam, no hearing test hahaha...and I have a lead foot (according to my wife).

I'm seeing him using the Race card bigtime plus he's now added an extra topping of Financial Reparations to the black folks.

So those who've never been a slave or isn't related to one for 4 generations is now suddenly gonna get money for just being black & buying into this lie?

Oh well, it's true that politicians do & say anything to get elected into office.

The sad thing is that a lot of black will automatically want to vote for a black politicians regardless of their stand on issues today as they have been conditioned to feel that blacks must be in office - unless of course you are a Conservative or Republican!

Very bad and risky move.

They suckered Bob Dole into doing this years ago, and he lost both his race and his seat. Do Dems ever do this, or is it only the stupid Republicans who keep falling for this same trick.

OMG, now the Dems are poised to not only win the FL governorship, but are also potentially positioned to replace a Republican with a Democrat in Congress.

File this under “Beyond Stupid Moves”.

We all need to get ready to attend upcoming DeSantis rallies. Let Florida know in no uncertain terms that Ron DeSantis voters are enthusiastic supporters.

And a lot of us old people have to tolerate young whippersnappers who think they are Parnelli Jones.

Here is a THIRD reason this was a beyond stupid move:

If DeSantis loses the FL Governor race, a DEM Governor will have DEM politicians in Florida “power positions”, all ready to rig FL state results for the Dems in the 2020 re-election race.

Of course I will vote for him, but honestly, he is too naive to be in politics.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Desantis did the honorable thing by resigning.

Republicans do the honorable thing - Democrats don’t.

I hope he wins and will figure out some way to help him do so!

Florida DOES NOT NEED A FREAKING SOCIALIST GOVERNOR!

Honestly the worst drivers are YOUNG women who seldom are courteous to other drivers. They will not slow down to let you in ahead of them even if there is red light ahead, and the traffic is bumper to bumper behind them.

“Under these circumstances, it would be inappropriate for me to accept a salary. In order to honor my principles and protect the taxpayer, I officially resign from the House of Representatives effective immediately.”

Most congress critters would run in both races, {maybe in FL that isn't permitted}, but it is nice to see a man with integrity.

Gillum has raised $4 million since winning the Democratic nomination Aug. 28. DeSantis raised $516,000 during the same period.

No surprise. I knew this was coming. Especially after DeSantis’s FUBAR monkey comment. The FL GOP will lose these two key races if they don’t fight as hard for them as the Democrats will.

It’s not that bad. While both races are close, I will expect DeSantis to beat the Dem for governor, and for the GOP to keep the House seat as well. Might take a couple of visits by that “force of nature”, Donald J Trump, though.

The FL races will be major battles. I expect black celebrities will go all out on social media to GOTV for Gillum. If the GOPe does not devote resources ($$$) and fight these campaigns Scott & DeSantis will lose.
