Brit Hume: Pete Buttigieg "Most Impressive" Candidate Since The Emergence Of Barack Obama

Why are we compelled to attack Britt Hume merely for stating that which is obvious to many?

First, consider Brit’s statement that he see’s Buttigieg as “the most impressive by far candidate in terms of just raw political talent in the Democratic field”. OK, PB is glib. Some of Brit’s ilk might also say he is “clean and articulate”. But the guy is just the mayor of a relatively small town. Its the ONLY office he has ever held. Moreover, he ran for State Treasurer in 2010 and for chair of the DNC in 2017 and lost both. So his supposed “political talent” hasn’t exactly translated into political achievements. (Admittedly, Trump didn’t have political achievements either but he had lots of other achievements in the world of international real estate, business and entertainment.)

Second, consider that this lightweight could, in a time span of less than two short years, be dealing with some of the toughest and most cunningly ruthless people on earth. Note that Brit expresses nary a word of concern about the prospect of him being manhandled by the likes of Putin and Xi. Just imagine the optics of seeing the former mayor of South Bend standing meekly next to them.

Third, while Brit is swooning over the next Obama he conveniently neglects to acknowledge the damage the smooth talking Obama did to this country. I don’t think I need to say anything more about that.

Brit glosses over a lot in his not so hidden enthusiasm for PB so its no wonder that FReepers are critical of this well known anti-Trumper.

Methinks Brit has spent too much time isolated in the exclusive enclave of Boca Grande.

Neither, it is worth remembering, did it Barack Obama's political talents translate into significant political achievement apart from a junior senator for a couple of years. It is also worth remembering that we misjudged Obama and got beat handily twice. Do we want to be beat by Buttigieg simply because we underestimated him as we did Obama? If Brit Hume spares us this dangerous arrogance, has he not done us a service?

I think you do. Brit Hume was given a few minutes ( I think less than two) to assess the performance of this candidate in the Fox forum he was not assigned to deliver a polemic about the Obama administration and could not even if he wanted to in the time allotted. He was asked to act as a reviewer to review last night's play which he did perfectly reasonably.

Brit glosses over a lot in his not so hidden enthusiasm for PB so its no wonder that FReepers are critical of this well known anti-Trumper.

Even in the short time allotted, Brit Hume did not "gloss over" a lot, quite the contrary, he said:

He stakes out issues that are well outside the mainstream, reparations, abortion in particular as far as I can tell last night when he said there is no moment before birth when he wouldn't support a woman's right to an abortion and that's a position not widely held in this country. Abortion in some instances is accepted but not that position and there are other positions as well but just in terms of being comfortable with himself and fast on his feet I think in the debates it will be interesting to see how he stacks up…
