Between the lines: McDonald is basing his prediction of "a hundred-year storm" on the 2018 midterms, which had the highest off-year election turnout in more than a century (50%). He says that momentum will only get stronger. •Prior to 2018, turnout rates for midterms since 1974 had been languishing around 40% to 41%.

Democrats are driven by their hatred for Trump. They came out in record numbers to defeat the Trump red wave in 2018.

Their hatred for Trump is what motivates them. Their hatred is growing. Their singular goal is to vote Trump out of office and they WILL vote as a united front.

Our only hope is Republicans stay committed to Trump but this is tenuous.

Trump has to make a big move on stopping illegal immigration and draining the swamp; the core issues of his base.

If he fails to show results before 2020 a small number of them will consider him nothing more than any other politician who lied to them to get elected and they will sit out the election.

Meanwhile Democrats will vote as a solid bloc.

Heaven help us.

“Our only hope is Republicans stay committed to Trump but this is tenuous. “

I don’t think it was just Republicans who voted Trump into office; though he did pull a lot of Republican votes. Trump created a new populist constituency. Populists are tired of the Democratic fear mongering like Obama who told a group of CEO’s, “If it weren’t for me there would be a mob trying to hang you.” Trump has attracted and held the #walkaway movement. Trump has syphoned off moderate Democrats and much of the middle ground between the Left and the Right. If the economy holds, and that is a big if, Trump will win no matter which intersectional puppet gets the nod from the Democrats.
