FReeper Internet Wizards.....HELP!
Research | 06 November 2003 | Robert Drobot, Member, FreeRepublic

I've finally completed indexing, by date, all of the FreeRepublic.com 'Terri' threads.

There are four hundred and eighteen ( 418 )of them at this moment.

It's all in a Quattro Pro file, and I'm trying to figure out how to put the file on the internet and link it to FR for FReeper review. I want to post it to the internet as a read only file, and I'll simply renew it ( replace it )daily.

TOPICS: Miscellaneous; Technical; Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: file; internet; linking; maping; quattropro
Please explain or map out what I must to put an open QuattroPro file on the internet as a read only file so that it can be linked to a FR posting, having the ability to renew it as necessary.

I have a Microsoft XP platform, if that is of any help in getting from here to there.

Can you save it as a .pdf file in Acrobat? Most people would have Acrobat Reader and would be able to read a .pdf file. You would need the regular version of Acrobat to create the .pdf file. You could create the hyperlinks to each of the threads in the list in Acrobat.

i dont know anything about quattro pro, but it is pretty easy to write a script to make a textfile into HTML on unix/linux.. or a quick VB program on windows..

  1. Find someone with Excel.
  2. Install Excel's Quattro Pro file filter if necessary.
  3. In Excel, open the Quattro Pro file.
  4. In Excel, save the file as an HTM/HTML file.
  5. Post the HTML file on a web server, and link the FR thread to it, or post the HTML in the FR posting.

I did something called Blogging, and accomplished the same task. Thanks you for taking the time to advise me.

lol, you know that since you've posted this there have been another 146 threads (and I might be missing some at that).

12 of those threads have over 1,000 posts, 14% of which contain crucial info that just must not ever be lost! I know, because I have been trying in vain to keep up.

Seriously, thanks for your work on this, and your efforts to keep it all straight for us.
