Some conservatives liken Sabine Herold, a 22-year-old student, to Joan of Arc, and others nickname her "Mademoiselle Thatcher" after she took on France's left-wing labor unions this summer.

Many in France see her as a symbol of a growing revulsion among young French libertarians against a ruling class that punishes excellence and rewards mediocrity.

I found this article this morning to be very uplifting and inspiring... There's hope for France yet!

This young woman sounds like a Free Republic soul-mate.

"Libertarianism is not anarchy. It implies liberty and responsibility" she said.

Well said.

Maybe she'll end up moving to New Hampsire. I doubt the frogs will tolerate her for long.

Europe needs a miracle. What a miracle it would be if St. Joan reappeared in 21st century form to lead la belle France and the rest of Europe to a renaissance!

Contemporary Europe--including beautiful France--is trapped in a maze of confusion, self-doubt, and decadence; unable to escape socialism, Islam, or leftist self-destruction; unable to believe its own survival to be worthwhile; unable to believe in Christianity or Western Civilization; unable to muster the energy, imagination, or even the will to continue existing.

Europe definitely needs a leader!

"I doubt the frogs will tolerate her for long."

If she continues to gain backers, she'll be looking at prison, exile, or the stake for sure. A French FReeper...who'd of thunk it?

Lots of reading, including works of Alexis de Tocqueville and her favorite, the Nobel economics prize-winner Friedrich Hayek, inspired her political ideas.

Isn't this interesting.

Hmmm. She hasn't posted in a while? Can anybody blame her?

It is a pity...

Interesting. I found a page by someone who has written an odd poem that has both Sabine Herold and Free Republic in the lyrics.

Can't figure out if it is bad or not.
