[history]
Arnold Schwarzenegger took over California's governorship last week with an aggressive gusto that was -- largely by design -- very reminiscent of his title character in the "Terminator" movies.
"It's true that things may get harder before they get better," Schwarzenegger told Californians during his inaugural address. "But I've never been afraid of the struggle, I've never been afraid of the fight, and I've never been afraid of the hard work."

All the voters love him.... all the dems in the state house hate him... not a rocky beginning for Arnold; a rocky beginning for the dems.

Norm, I didn't check out the link. I sure hope this was an editorial editorial, as opposed to an editorial dressed up as a news article.

Time flies, doesn't it?
For the liberal media, the honeymoon is over even though the marriage hasn't been consumated yet.

Schwarzenegger's governorship off to a very 'Rocky' beginning Both he and Bush inherited a Democrat disaster. If he's as good as Bush, California may actually pull out of the mess Davis left behind for him.

He never said he had a magic bullet...er...pill. The thinking voters never thought it would be easy: We had a financially-murderous fool just a couple of weeks ago, and we aren't so stupid as to believe that repairing his horrific damage won't be difficult on everyone.
The joy I feel over having someone else in charge, is knowing that there is now a chance that the burden will be shared by all of the state's citizenry. With that gray davis in office, it was apparent that no adults were in charge, and he didn't care where the mop-up money came from!
The only fault of the citizenry is that "we" elected such a pigs as that gray davis to office. Unfortunately, we will all have to share the expense. Davis walks away from the mess, but we now have an apparent adult to lead us through.

It's a Dan Walters thing so it is hard to quantify.
I didn't put it in Editorial, btw. ;-)

" But he didn't do that. Indeed, his car tax cut, when coupled with his promise to make up the lost revenues to local governments, would add another $4 billion a year to the state's structural budget deficit."
Waaa waaa. The esteemed author neglects to report how the state would be saddled with an addition 15 billion to the deficit in a few years when the courts ruled the 'car tax' unconstitutional.
Arnold will do no right by the leftist media. As long as they are bashing him, he must be doing something right.

What the CA libs can't stand is the "cut spending" message. I hope the Terminator will terminate a lot of the stupid tax funding ploys that Doofus put into place.

You know, as well as I, that the present legislative districting insulates a majority of the stalwart ideologues on both sides of the isle. Yes you can hope for a change in competative districts but to forecast a general rout was obviously made in a moment of blissful exhuberance for which you are forgiven.
As examples there is little chance that Burton (if he were elgible), Cedillo and McClintock would be turned out by their constituants regardless of how much pressure the executive exerts.

This is an exceedingly dishonest evaluation in one important aspect. Davis's tax increase on cars has actually led to the state losing money; Californians refused to buy new cars and the loss of sales tax revenue that resulted, plus the loss of revenue from the California automobile sales industry actually exceeded funds obtained through tax increases.

Big Dem Burton is the one who got off to a "rocky start" when he insinuated Arnold is a racist for wanting to repeal the Crats illegal immigrant driver's license law. Seventy percent of CA voters want it repealed and now Burton is gonna "stand in the schoolhouse doorway" to stop it being overturned. Can't get much rockier than that.

I hear what you are saying about the districting, and didn't mean to surprise you. ;-)
My opine is more driven by a deeper belief that voters as a whole are being gradually more informed about the excesses that we have been "suckered" into supporting in the name of progressivism without an understanding of their true costs.
I am hopeful , however, of a surge of reality hitting more and more voters the next few months as revelations about our state govt & certain members and constituencies & their self-serving agendas are made more widely known or at least get more exposure. (Blame it on the romantic in me, just don't tell my wife I got some left.LOL)

driven by a deeper belief that voters as a whole are being gradually more informed about the excesses that we have been "suckered" into Norm I not at odds with your faith because it is shared but I'm one hell of lot more cynical about the electorate and absolutely convinced that a reasonable executive is no match for a ideologue legislature backed by a sycophant judicial.
The present districting provides for single issue ideologues who's behavior will be tolerated as long as the goal is achieved.
Cedillo is an excellent example. An anchor baby, past president of the largest foreign union local in the US, elected from a district divided between anchor babies and illegal immigrants, who have elected him soley to advance a single cultural cause. SB60 ws no surprise and as long as Cedillo continues to sponsor similar legislation he is assured reelection until he is termed out only to be replaced by a similar cultural ideologue.
Presently 43 of these safe, single issue districts exist in California divided unevenly between liberals (26) and conservatives (17)

Trust me. My cynicism is in the shop getting a once over, it'll be back firing on all 16 soon. (plus my internal clock just clicked ahead another year today so I'm semi-lucid).
It looks like our work is cut out for us in the meantime. Any ideas on how to stir the pot?
What happened to the proposal of special "masters" and a commission to re-do the districting with a bi-partisan panel working together to ensure gerrymandering is kaboshed.

Any ideas on how to stir the pot?Absolutely. Get involved.
Get active in local politics. Join your local political central committee. Run for any local, public office. Hell, run for an elected statewide office. Even a miserably failed campaign provides insights into the process well worth the minor filing fee.
But most important, keep on posting and replying.
