SEVEN TEENAGERS KILLED IN N. C.

Posted on 12/29/2003 2:58:30 PM PST by boothead

Seven teenagers ranging from 13 to 18 were killed this A.M. about 12:30 after being chased by the Troutman Police. The driver was seen driving in an erratic way and a chase was started. The car ran off the roadway to the left and went into a slid ending up in a small stream-bed on it's top. All seven, 5 boys and 2 girls were killed instantly. The auto was stolen earlier in the night. Some of the victims have not been identified. The teenagers were all from the Statesville, N. C. area. Sorry but this is all I have.

Actions have consequences.

If you can't do the time (or its equivelant), DON'T DO THE CRIME!!!!!

Do you get it now?

"children who do not obey their parents are not arrested unless they break a law."

If the parents of the dead boys tried to stop them from going out that night and the boys all told their parents they we're going out anyway, what should the parents have done?
Whip them?
Thats against the law!
Lock them in their rooms?
Thats against the law!
Tie them up?
Thats against the law!
As a matter of fact, it's against the law to discipline your children.
Since you say you blame the parents for the kids deaths, tell me what they should have done.

Until I have information that the parents did nothing or could do nothing, they have the blame.

Yes of course, police should not be allowed to chase a stolen car ... sheeesh ... it's not like this was a traffic stop gone bad, this was a FELONY PURSUIT

The auto was stolen earlier in the night. Some of the victims perps have not been identified.

I agree for the most part, but a few of those kids might have not understood or had a choice after the S-it hit the fan.

The reason I say this is because I was in the car several times as a teen with people who I didn't think were a problem who drove in such a way that I'm lucky to be alive.

One more fact to add to all this--according to an article that started another thread on this, the stolen Intrepid was running with a small temporary spare tire on one wheel...and was doing an estimated 80-100 mph *before* the officer lit it up.

So you've got an overloaded car (7 people in a space built for 5), probably almost at its max weight, with one wheel smaller than the other three and a spare tire not built for much over 60 mph, being driven at 80+ mph in the middle of the night on a rural highway by a 15-year-old with no license who's just committed a home invasion robbery (allegedly).

Oh, but it's the cop's fault, according to Crusader.

Sounds to me like this kid stood a pretty damn good chance of putting that car into the creek whether or not there was a police officer chasing him.

13 yr olds and 14 yr olds are in way over their heads when this stuff happens. A 15 yr old took all their lives. He was the culprit, he had choices, lots of them. He chose to do the things that caused them all to be dead. It's a tragedy in every sense.

It's rather irrelevant. They were in the car, they knew it was a joyride, they weren't wearing seat belts. That's why they are dead. If anyone is to blame, it's the media for portraying running from the police as "cool". I doubt the driver came up with this idea on his own.

It's not the police's fault when someone runs from them. That's akin to blaming a new TV in the house for a break-in.

They were in the car, they knew it was a joyride,

You can't possibly know that from the article.

they weren't wearing seat belts. That's why they are dead.

You can't know that either. They may or may not have lived if wearing belts.

If anyone is to blame, it's the media for portraying running from the police as "cool".

How very liberal of a concept, blame everyone except the person who caused it. Maybe video games were the cause. < /sarcasm>

I doubt the driver came up with this idea on his own.

He was driving, he didn't have to run away at high speed. The blood is on his hands. But he's dead, so we have to blame someone else.

It's not the police's fault when someone runs from them.

I agree and I hope your weren't implying I said anything like that.

That's akin to blaming a new TV in the house for a break-in.

Huh? Your analogy about the media is more like that. And I never did that, BTW.
