What is a 13 year old doing out at 12:30 AM committing crimes ---- where on earth are the parents?

Darwinism was right.

Darwin was right.
Darwinism states: "Those most able to adapt will continue to survive".

No flames, just a question. Are you against all police pursuits?

"The gangs then started taunting the police and speeding away, knowing they could not be chased --- shown on tv by news program."

Yeah, I can just see it now, a carload of hooded thugs pulls up to a cruiser on the Garden State Parkway and flips him the bird. The cop, knowing he cannot give persuit, pulls over into a HoJo's and orders a tuna sammich and coffee. You want me to believe this claptrap? I was born in the day, but not yesterday.

New Jersey, several years ago, said no high speed chases. --- The gangs then started taunting the police and speeding away, knowing they could not be chased --- shown on tv by news program.

On the other hand, certain cities in New Jersey still engage in "unofficial" practices that are absolutely forbidden in their police procedures, including the use of impounded vehicles as battering rams to stop high-speed chases. These practices "don't happen," according to anyone who works in the law enforcement community -- but they've gone a long way toward reducing high-speed pursuits in these places.

Wonder why the teens were driving erratically to begin with? One would assume that someone driving erratically is DUI, either booze or drugs. Betcha!

Perhaps the bleeding hearts that won't acknowledge that bad acts often lead to bad circumstances...would be happier if they thought of this as simply a VERY late term abortion...

At least in this case -- the dead contributed the first several acts that led to their death.... unlike the innocent fetus in the womb.

You are Monday morning quarterbacking. Hindsight, 20/20, all that jazz. Go to your local police station and ask for a ride-along.

Amen! Best cure for ignorance.

That was my first question. They only way my daughter will be a situation like this would be if she lies to us about who she's with, or if the parents of the person she's with drop the ball. My daugher does not run around with a group of kids late at night unsupervised by a responsible adult. Nor does she run around with kids who are more than a year older than she is. Frankly, my daughter doesn't have the good sense God gave a turnip and I don't quite trust in her ability not to bow to peer pressure.

The parents this morning are busy complaining to the press that the child shouldn't have been chased by the police last night. Last night the parents didn't have a clue as to where the child was and what he or she was doing.

It's what some parents do best, blame others for their lack of parenting skills.

LOL! I saw that. I can understand his viewpoint, but I don't think that I'd like a total stranger whomping my daughter with a belt.

"No flames, just a question. Are you against all police pursuits?"

Not at all, the police have to give some sort of persuit of a criminal. But there is a massive difference between a pilfered car with seven young teens in it and a getaway car speeding away from the scene of an armed bank robbery. If that cop's daughter were in the car would he have chased it down like that, or would he have radiod ahead for help and tried to just block it off down the road? You and I both know the answer to that question.

We were all born with brains and, hopefully, a sense of fairness and decency. How important to society is it that we chase down seven kids on a joy ride at all costs, even at the cost of their lives or the lives of innocent bystanders? Sorry, but it's just that I clearly remember a different time, with a different attitude in society. Police Commissioners, Cheifs and Mayors did NOT want these high speed chases for petty crimes.... they had the brains and compassion to understand that the benefits of nabbing a teen car theif did not outweigh the risks involved in a high speed chase. And this incident is a perfect example of why it's just plain WRONG. Human life has been devalued not only in the abortion clinics, but all over our society now.

Yes, just ignore people who flee from the police. The world would be so much better off if we'd just ignore the criminals. Better yet, why not just take the cars away from the police altogether. Had these children done what they were supposed to do they'd all be alive. Blaming the police for the conduct of lawbreakers is about as dumb a statement anyone can make.

TheCrusader would not accept this. According to him these were just some innocent kids. They were not doing anything wrong, just stealing cars and driving crazy. There is nothing wrong with this. Tell this to the parents of some other young driver that these kids might have killed if the police had not done their jobs.

"Do you need a reality check or a brain check?"

Actually I don't like the idea of high speed pursuits either, I don't think they're necessary MOST of the time given today's tracking technology. This said, it isn't right to blame the police for what happened, and I wasn't there so it's hard to say what I would have done under the circumstances. But I know the police didn't drive that car into the creek, the driver could have let up on the gass; I feel sorry for anyone in the car who didn't want to be part of the chase.
