"From Bush's POV, he can make it clear to Congressional Repubs that he in no way wants to see that damned AW or Mag Ban on his desk ready for a sig 6 weeks before he stands for re-election."

Why should he care, though? At that point, it will be illegal for anyone except a member of the media to mention the legislation, and the media will either toss the story down the memory hole or spin it into illegibility. Thanks to McCain-Feingold, the safest time to ban guns is right before an election!

Some of Bush's recent statements leave me wondering if he is taking the election for granted?

Your comment re: McPain-Sweingold may be too true for comfort.
It is one reason I think it CRITICAL that we make as much effort as possible to get our view across as strongly as possible while we still can.

The best news is that the election follows the ban expiration date so closely, every candidate knows that "the people" have short memories.
But any of them who look at the results of the last couple of elections and "gun control" will know the our memory is NOT that short!

We may have lost the right to exercise the our first amendment rights just prior to an election, but we still get to vote our issues, in private.

Great point...I might have added President Bush's name for signing the stupid thing.
