Funny, but I've been eating burgers like this for YEARS. My family thinks I'm nuts because of it. :) Very cool.

...Anheuser-Busch starts marketing a "low carb" beer (oxymoron since beer is nothing but carbs and water), that the Ankins craze is a fad.

Its not a diet fad though as its been defined. Its a marketing fad. A diet fad is the "diet patch" or the "green onion diet". Atkins is working for millions and makes sense. I expect Atkins followers will quadruple this year (2004). A diet that has Sarah Lee and other carb panderers seeking alternative markets isn't a fad.

For years, Hubby and I used to order Hardee's big burgers, put the buns in the garbage and eat with a knife and fork.

Yes we can! Due to recent advances in the soda fountain industry, Cup O' Pizza has managed to deliver Cup O' Pizza on tap at some of your favorite beer halls. A modified beer tap and fountain unit called the "Tap O' Pizza" developed by Valffös, a German fountain producer, will now allow you to enjoy fresh Cup O' Pizza with any of your malt liquor or hard alcohol beverages. Just say a round of "Tap O' Pizza" for everyone!

Yes!

But I waaaaaaas hoping for something a little more inovative, like a tube-o-burger, that I could eat while driving. I guess they're still working on it in the lab.

I used to like BK's fries and onion rings years ago. Now the fries are garbage and the onion rings downright nauseous.

However, that's the way with all purchased prepared fried things today. Since the fat fanatics had their way, what DOES taste good anymore?

You can't even say "I can't stop eating them" about potato chips in this day and age. I hardly can START eating them now.

Between the anti-smoking fascists and the health fanatics, I hardly eat out now.....doing all entertaining, cooking, baking, and FRYING at home.

would I be alone if I said the whole Atkins craze was a crock?

You'd be among the 2/3 of Americans who aren't following a low-carb diet... yet. It's a paradigm shift thing.

That's great!, but I didn't say that it didn't work. However, any similar massive alteration in eating habits will do the same. I lost 50lbs by resticting my own diet to 20 grams of fat per day. And I didn't spend a penny on anyone's "plan".

Congratulations on figuring out what works for you. However, there's a whole bunch of us out there who tried the low fat method and it caused us to gain weight and be constantly hungry instead. I know for me and a whole lot of others who reduce their carbs start losing weight and are never hungry right after eating. I feel so much better eating low carb, that I will never ever go the low fat high carb route again. Each person has to figure out what works for them and do it.

The "protein burger" has been part of the IN-N-OUT "secret menu" for at least 30 years. Hand leafed lettuce replaced the bun. Of course, in my younger days, I had no trouble polishing off a four-by-four - another entry on the "secret menu." And if you want another cardio-challenging treat, ask for your burger or fries "animal style" - covered in melted chesse, the spread they use on the burgers, and grilled, diced onions.

Much agreed, with emphasis on "do it."

They'll take off the bun, and probably charge twice as much. I'll just get the Whopper and take off my own bun, thank you!....:)

In n out bunless burger is known as "Protein Style"

You can also order grilled onions, and a whole bunch of other off menu items from In n out. It's like a cult. If only they served kool-aid...

I lost 40 pounds a few years ago on Atkins, eating 16 ounce ribeyes. My cholesterol count went down, too. 20 grams of fat per day. Gahhh..... Sounds like an inedible diet. Fat is what makes food taste good!

Its not a diet fad though as its been defined. Its a marketing fad. A diet fad is the "diet patch" or the "green onion diet".

Point taken, but look again at the title of the thread. My reply was about the marketing.

Just an afterthought, the word "fad" does not mean fraudulent. It means "A transitory fashion adopted with wide enthusiasm." I think the Atkins diet meets the definition.

I would say that 2 grams per beer is pretty "low carb"

I think KFC advertises the baked, not breaded chicken as "low carb"

As always - buyer beware.

They are bandwagon jumping.

Nope, the ad has some schlep sitting on his tailgate scarfing down the KFC Original Recipie, claiming he's eating "low carb".

BTW, 20 grams of fat per day is plenty. I ate very well and was not hungry, I just had to choose my foods carefully.

Not alone, but lonely. Hi-carb diets work for people who are very (very) active, e.g., Navy Seals in training. They suck for the desk-bound officer worker who does the aerobic thing three or four times a week. Atkins or the very healthy Carbohydrate Addict's diet are much more likely to reduce stored fat.

Dr. Sheehan said years ago that if you run an hour a day you can eat anything you want. He was pretty well right. Unfortunately some people have experienced injuries when they being to hit 6 or 7 miles a day every day.
