I just received via email, the information that Howard Dean's medical license expired in February 2003.

Has anybody else heard this or have information?

Nope.. but I wonder if Edwards isn't the man the Dems want. None of the frontrunners. Seems that would be a good way to take the heat off the real candidate and the focus onto the most 'interesting' candidates.

It doesn't matter. Even a retired doctor keeps his title. I don't think Dr. Dean was planning on performing any abortions anytime soon anyway.

Maybe it was revoked because he believes live fetuses are never aborted. (It's true, he said it.)

go about 3/4 down the page and there is this...

BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) Former Gov. Howard Dean has let his license to practice medicine in Vermont expire.

But Dean, who is a physician and a candidate for president, said it was an oversight caused by his busy schedule. He plans to pay the $25 penalty for a late renewal.

Dean's license lapsed Nov. 30. The regular renewal cost is $350, said John Howland Jr., interim director of the state Medical Practice Board.

Hundreds of nonpracticing doctors are similarly tardy in filing for renewal, Howland said. If Dean were practicing medicine, the lapsed license would be a much bigger deal.

''I find it quite unremarkable that he would not be renewing his medical license,'' Howland said. ''He's busy doing other things.''

Dean said his busy schedule contributed to his not renewing his license.

Dean told Modern Physician magazine that he wasn't in Montpelier last fall to receive the renewal application.

''I wasn't there much in November and December, so I never saw it,'' Dean told the Chicago-based magazine, which first reported the story on its Web site Wednesday. ''It will be taken care of, but I do have to pay a $25 fine.''

I'm no fan of Howard Dean, believe me. But with all the hoaxes and urban legends going around the internet you cannot tell me you'd put any faith in an email, especially on the eve of an important election. I'll bet plenty it's just a dirty trick from one of the other campaigns.

Paying that late fee must really frost the cheapskates cookies.

Friends say he was conducting a rectal exam of a patient in 1991 when
he learned that the governor had died and he had become the state's
leader. He has not practiced medicine since, even accidentally
allowing his medical license to expire last month. Some friends said
the routine work of an internist, exemplified by what he was doing
when he got the call as governor, was not exciting enough for him.

Well that clears up the story (or non-story). We should all fear Dr. Dean a great deal -- for his harmful policy ideas, not for a paperwork lapse.

Gee, thanks for the image. :) I'm sure Dean is really happy about that Newsday article.

As the later posting shows, he let it lapse and will pay a late fee for renewal. I'm no Dean fan, but I don't see this as a big deal. There's plenty else to dislike about his candidacy without this.

I would think it's illegal for a doctor with an expired license to write a prescription. I think I heard that Dean writes himself prescription medications for his difficulty in "sleeping", so Mr Dean has probably violated the law here.

Maybe he was doctor-shopping! Better get the AG in Florida on the case!

Thanks for the info.

Just an "oversight" huh?

After reading the People Magazine interview and seeing how tight he is, I'm shocked he's willing to cough up the $25 renewal fee. LOL

I had e-mails with the Vt. Medical Society last month on this topic.

They tell me MDs do NOT have to be licensed annually.

They must get cerification annually or other periods for any speciality medicine they perform.

I guess it's like General....once you earn the title it's yours!

So we're going to let a man run our country who can't be bothered to open his own mail? Does he write bounced checks? Leave huge unpaid balances on his credit cards?

Will he respond to terrorists immediately, or let provocations sit there unanswered?

We already had a prez like that.

Cool your jets, moondoggie. If he has no intention on practicing, it's no biggie.

This is reminiscent of the way the Dr. Laura Schlessinger-hating mainstream media slanted coverage of the Gay-stapo trying to derail her TV show by claiming that she was underqualified to speak out on psychological issues because her degree is in physiology. When folks like myself would respond that while she was NOT a psychologist, she was a certified Marriage Family and Child Counselor and a former assistant psych professor, they would cite that her license to practice as an MFCC -- gasp! -- had expired!!!

To which I would respond, "Duh!" She's not in private practice anymore, she's an author and a radio superstar!

Be careful. The Clinton-Clark Cult is trying to keep their grip on the party, and are throwing all kinds of schtuff against the wall in the hope something will stick.
