CALLS FOR IMPEACHMENT OF CHENEY AT GEPHARDT EVENT Sat Jan 17 2004 20:09:48 ET
Congressman Jerry Costello, a Democrat from Illinois' 12th District, appeared at a Dick Gephardt rally in Clinton, IA on Saturday. Gephardt was unable to attend the appearance because his plane was fogged in due to inclement weather, but Costello addressed the crowd and took questions. The "Countdown to Victory" event was held at the Sundance Lodge on Route 30.
Question From Audience: "Is integrity going to become an issue in this campaign? Because the Republicans railed on Clinton for eight years - and some of it rightfully so. That rubbed off on Gore negatively and unfortunately. But this administration, and Cheney in particular, he's an embarrassment to the whole country. And it doesn't get enough publicity. When Enron walked in there and dictated the American energy policy, he didn't even try to cover it up. The very next day he came out with the energy policy."
Rep. Jerry Costello (D-IL): "Could you imagine what the Republicans would be doing to a Democratic president who was a CEO of a company that now has gotten billions of dollars worth of contracts - no-bid contracts - without competition? There would be hearings day after day. And my prediction to you is that you will see in this session of Congress that begins on Tuesday, there will not only be hearings but I think there ought to be impeachment hearings."

Could someone who has followed this whole energy task force thing answer a question for me; did or did not Enron get what thay wanted from the Bush administration? I mean, the Bush energy plan that came out of the task force is in the hands of congress and from what I know Enron did not get what they wanted.
I have been a Cheney fan for 20 years now and believe that he is a man of the highest integrity. I await him debating the dem VP candidate to witness an a$$ kicking once again.

What are the ramifications of Dickie now implicitly joining with the lunies and supporting impeachment?

Enron got a sweetheart contract to build a power plant in India from the clinton administration.
Rubin called the Bush administration on behalf of Enron, asking to bail the out, and Bush's people said "No." End of story, except for about three weeks of huge headlines trying to blame it on Bush.
Cheney's connection with Halliburton. But there was no corruption there, either. Halliburton is just about the only firm qualified to do this kind of work.

Uh, Jerry, ol' buddy, ol' pal, Halliburton got even more billions of no-bid contracts from the Clinton-Gore administration than they've gotten from Bush-Cheney.
So, maybe, you oughtta turn down the rhetoric a little bit, huh? Irresponsible jerk!

Enron wanted Kyoto real bad. They were going to manage the sale of Pollution credits.
Make Cheney and issue. The Red Meat Republicans would love him to be the issue. I can't get enough of him filleting rats.

But he has NO connection with it.

Hell, Enron wanted the Kyoto Treaty to be adopted because they'd already geared up to make billions of bucks trading carbon credits.
The Administration sure listened to them on that.
Liberals have a convenient memory.

Yeah....convenient as in all they have to do is remember to hate Bush/Cheney. And that's not so hard - there is blind hatred in their hearts, and oatmeal in their heads.

Cheney's connection with Halliburton. But there was no corruption there, either. Halliburton is just about the only firm qualified to do this kind of work. Quite true. In addition, Cheney's retirement payout from Halliburton is fully-insured -- so that Cheney receives the money whether Halliburton exists or not. Cheney profiteth nil from any Halliburton contracts.
Costello knows all of this. It is a matter of public record. But he chooses to inflame the crowd with what amounts to hate speech. May the Democrats reap as they have sown...

Could someone who has followed this whole energy task force thing answer a question for me; did or did not Enron get what thay wanted from the Bush administration? Enron did get favorable treatment during the Clinton years. When Enron as the Bush White House for favors, none was given.
