Most grocery stores have sugar-free Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and Hersey's Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate, and Milk Chocolate with almonds mini bars.

Good danish blue cheese is awesome with a steak and salad as well.

If only I could find something low carb to sop up the juices! ;^)

you'd swear it was ex-lax

Actually, it seems like most of the low-carb chocolate does that. You just have to eat it in moderation. It does make the pounds "slide" off though!

Kraft to Cut 6,000 Jobs, Close 20 Plants

Carlo.
When I saw this headline I had the same thought. Atkins diet is to blame. All Kraft sells is junkfood. Hallmark of junkfood being a lot of fat, sugar, bizarre additives/preservatives, and carbohydrates (empty calories)

re: Don't go a diet that doesn't let you eat the foods you like or crave because when you go off the diet (and 99% of people do) the weight will come right back. (Although I have read alot of good things about the low carb diet.) )))

Well....no one loved bread and tators more than I. I was a pretzel and Premium Saltine nut. I ate toast without butter because I thought that would help knock out the calories...and exercise was only the most tangental of help.

Now most of my sweet and starch tooth is completely gone. I'll have a nibble of someone else's dessert and it has a sharp, nasty, almost painful bite. But a pile of broccoli with butter is newly sweet. For a treat, I'll make some potato soup with lots of cauliflower and ham--I still like the mealy texture of potatoes.

I started my locarb eating when there were few commercial substitutes, at a time when my appetite was simply ravenous--

I ate huge breakfasts when I started out on locarb, lots of meat and salad--big platefuls. Now, I couldn't begin to eat that amount. But Atkins is designed to work with that carb-driven hunger, and gradually it disappears.

But I don't go trying to sell everyone on it, because I still love to bake conventional goodies--that I might taste, but never eat.

"Our local wal-mart has a low carb section now. They have Sara Lee bread at 9 carbs a slice, which still seems high to me, but at least big companies are seeing and responding to the low carb market."

You can subtract the grams of fiber, probably 3, which yields 6 grams of net impact carbs, ie, carbs that affect insulin. Fiber does not affect insulin.

"Eat what you want, just watch the portions. And get some form of exercise."

Nice of you to think of people who for medical reasons are unable to do much exercise.

How caring for your one size fits all advice which doesn't take into account people who have very busy schedules and no time to exercise, such as interns, surgeons, people who work full time and go to school.

Nice of you to take into account diabetics, and people who are metabolically resistant to losing weight, no matter how much they exercise and how little they eat. Some people are cursed with efficiency. In prehistoric times this would have been a survival characteristic. Today it's not.

Can you think of a good reason for people NOT to follow this plan, if it's easier to stay on and works faster than the one you suggested?

"One good example, people on low carb diets are under the impression that eating tons of Butter/Red Meats/Bacon/Eggs is OK. "

That's an interesting conclusion, considering that in ketosis, the body is chemically unable to store fat.

Care to back it up?

"I'll never stop eating salads OR even stop eating things like paw-paw, figs, etc. There are a lot of lazy peope in the world, and also greedy people who like the fast weight loss of low carb and don't have to exercise."

I love figs, but as a hypoglycemic, I shouldn't be eating them. I guess now you changed your position to being that low carb dieting is bad because people on it don't eat some of your pet fruits?

I love my diet. High-carb, high-protein, high-fat. 6-8 meals a day, double my weight in protein grams. Huge meal before bed.

The goal is to gain 10-15 lbs by summer.

Painlessly down 6 LBS in two and a half weeks without hardly trying, and cheating at will. Feasting mightily today upon bbq ribs, veggies and bleu cheese, tuna, and a few pistachios. 16 lbs to go.

Gorging on Fats(no-carbs) is just as bad as gorging on Carbs(low-fat).

The thing is, nowhere in Atkins does it say to "gorge" yourself on anything? Thats what always gets me about anti-Atkins people.. WIthout bothering to actually look into it, they assume that its all about 24 oz. prime rib for breakfast, lunch and dinner.. Its not about that at all.

I really hate what Corporate America is doing to Atkins.. they're making it seem like a simple fad/craze that will soon pass when in reality, it is not that at all.

While I'm at it.. 45 LBS lost since Nov. 8, 03 WOOT!
