THREATENING NOTE SHAKES UP DICKINSON HIGH SCHOOL (HOUSTON)
The Houston Chronicle ^ | 12 February 2004 | S.K. Bardwell

Security has been heightened at Dickinson High School, but officials still expected more absences than usual today and tomorrow, in the wake of alleged threats made against some students. A handwritten note was found earlier this week stating that "preppies" at the school would be shot on Friday the 13th, tomorrow.

Dickinson police are investigating the threat, and say one set of suspects is a group of about 30 students who call themselves "stoners." Police said while "preppies" wear trendy, popular clothing and hair styles, stoners prefer gothic-style clothing and hair styles. Two students have so far been suspended during an investigation of the threats -- one for having a threatening note in her backpack and another for making threats that he later claimed were jokes, police said.

Police said they will charge students in the matter when they determine who is responsible for writing the note. Extra police officers were on the campus at 3800 Baker Wednesday and will remain in place today and tomorrow, officers said. A loudspeaker announcement at the school Wednesday assured students the threats were being taken seriously and investigated, but said the school could not guarantee any student's absolute safety, police said. Letters are being sent home with students today informing parents of the threats.

Solution: Required school uniforms and uniform hairstyles while at school. No exceptions. This needs to be put in place nationwide. This nation, due to lack of leadership and the will to set standards in place and enforce them, is headed downhill fast.

The kids these days can't get anything right.

Stoners used to be the druggies and had nothing to do with clothes or hair.

When my sister was in high school, they were known as the "skaters". Same gothic type clothes, hair, and makeup and they always hated the "preps". Every day she would come home and whine for hours about how much her group wanted the "preps" and "kickers" (cowboys) dead since they always tormented the "skaters".

gee maybe China could show us how to do this.
The "stoners" need to get over it.
We are not a socialist nation yet - could it be that the PARENTS (gasp) of these threatening kids need to wake up? This nation is mainly made up of PARENTS, i.e. "due to lack of leadership and the will to set standards"

If I remember correctly, Thailand also requires uniforms at school. I believe most of Asia does, as a matter of fact. Anyway...it would solve a LOT of problems. Now, the clothing industry would throw a fit...but who cares?

Thailand is not the United States and never will be. Now if OBL has his way, yes, we will ALL be wearing "uniforms" but hair styles will not be an issue because of the burkas.(MS)
Do you "get" the part about parents? Can they say "accountability or responsibility"?

Back in my day, we used to hear rumors about 'gang' fights after school. It was usually the kickers (cowboys) vs. the hippies. After school, everyone would gather in front of the school and wait for something to happen, when it didn't, we would get on the bus and go home. TFF!
