I've got an idea for how we can use the FreeRepublic.com Philosophy Section:
Let's post pieces having to do with philosophy -- at least in some definable way.
TOPICS: Philosophy; Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: anyone; for; philosophy
Revolutionary, eh?

Sounds like it will work in practice, but will it work in theory?

Sounds like it will work in practice, but will it work in theory? Well if it's really philosophy, it doesn't have to do either.

Don't step in it.

Get stoned,

Is that all there is?
Yep, some get with color and elan ... others mechanize.

Let me guess: ...nihilism? ...hedonism?
I never really could tell the difference.

Hell, I don't know ... I was trippin' on acid in '68 when that crap came to me.
I thought I was so original and profound.

This is an excellent idea. I propose this approach: Let's discuss the philosophical foundations of current events. In other words, what are the philosophical ideas (ontological, epistemological, ethical, and political) that underly the actions reported in the news? Our objects of scrutiny might be both leftists (e.g., the advocates of "democracy") and rightists (e.g., the populist enemies of a free republic). Each participant should be prepared to state the basic principles of his own philosophy.

Let's discuss the philosophical foundations of current events....Well that does tend to be both interesting and revealing -- and more according to the original intent of our founder, I think.

Yes, wouldn't it be great if the sidebars really worked. Why John and Jim have it still set up so that you can select more that one topic to classify your post, I will never understand.
Initially, I'm sure they might have thought that some useful cross referencing would by great, but that time has passed. Political Philosphy, Conservatism in general, or current election politics are all in need of being addressed as a group. But with the current system, you can't find the articles that really belong in the Topic you are looking for in the forum.
At one time, I had some hopes for the postition of Sidebar Moderator helping this problem, but the only interest is whether something is Breaking News, Extended News, Front Page or Editorial it seems.
