"WOULD DRIVERS LICENSE REFORM HAVE GIVEN HIM A BETTER CHANCE?"
Talk about asking the wrong question.

Cruel Twist of Fate: David Berridge once described a day spent riding his Harley as a perfect day. He was killed by an "undocumented driver" while riding this bike from Santa Cruz to Monterey last October. |

in which an estimated 2 million undocumented workers contribute to the economy
Bank robbers spend their money too thus contributing to the economy. Maybe we should give better training to them on how to rob "compassionately".
She was a CRIMINAL to begin with. If she had either been in jail or back in Mexico he wouldn't be dead.

If things worked as they should her family would be deported while she served her prison time and then she'd be dropped at the border to meet them once her stint was done.
But of course we all know it won't work that way.

The "if they had licenses and driver training they would be safe" argument is a pretty easy one to debunk. If it were true, there would never be an accident caused by a licensed, insured driver.

Here it is:
"a mother of five with no husband "
and
"Luna's daughter Kelly, who has an as-yet-unassessed genetic syndrome, won't get vital therapy"
How is this person contributing to the U.S.? This is not someone who should be given citizenship. She is not married, does not speak English. She is having many children out of wedlock and drawing down social services. She is only going to be a drain on social services (read: increase your taxes and suck money away from your retirement, medicare and hospital services).
She is driving a car that is not registered to her and without a drivers license and I would bet without insurance. She killed one person in a traffic accident and injured many others, including her own children.
The state of California already has probably spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on her and her actions in the U.S. so far.
The kind of person who is an ideal candidate for immigration brings some important skill that is missing here. We need doctors, engineers, scientists, business people that provide jobs... not tomato pickers that drive down the labor costs below teenager wages.

They argue that denying these workers a license in a state where everyone drives heightens everybody's risk on the roads, since an unlicensed, undocumented driver is, by definition, also untrained and uninsured. There are many Americans who don't qualify for a driver's license due to being too young, too elderly, bad eyesight, physical disabilities, poor driving record, etc. If a person does not have the legal right to drive, then they should stay off of our roads. In California, illegal alien lawbreakers do not have the legal right to drive so they should stay off of our roads. If the illegal alien driver in the article had not been on the road driving, the motorcyclist she killed would still be alive today.

This woman has caused more damage than a suicide bomber; I think they should send her back to Mexico for safekeeping.

Deport her and her children now.

Meanwhile, Sen. Cedillo's chief of staff, Dan Savage, says an idea is being floated in Sacramento to offer undocumented workers the ability to purchase low-cost insurance from the California Assigned Risk Pool, a program that's administered by the California Deptartment of Insurance.
The icing on the cake........
I wonder who'll pay for the subsidized part? In New York, my 18 year old son, driving over a year with NO accidents and NO tickets, pays $3600 a year for basic liablity on assigned risk. I have to see if New York has some of that low-cost stuff.

It will not make much difference how many people are killed in car accidents by illegal aliens -- there are thousends of accidents (and insurance scams) perpetrated by illegals every year. Nor will it matter how many millions of dollars illegals cost taxpayers each year -- they are already bringing CA to its knees financially.
The only thing that will wake up the soccer mom's and other bleeding hearts is when their children come home from school with a new form of TB (or other disease) brought in by the swarms of illegals ignoring our laws and borders. There is a reason we have (or are supposed to have) border control, and it isn't just about who comes in and where they come from -- it is about what they bring with them (aside from a lack of respect for our laws and customs and culture.)

"Doug Keegan at the Santa Cruz County Citizenship project says that many of his clients were gearing up to get licenses come Jan. 1, and were very disappointed when Schwarzenegger repealed SB 60."
Santa Cruz County CITIZENSHIP project? It seems that the true goal is acquiring legal status for those who break the law... drivers licenses are just the tip of the iceberg...

protesters questioned the logic of a system that allows an estimated 2 million workers to break their backs picking crops, bussing tables and cleaning floors, but shuts them out of the loop that would allow them to drive in a safe, responsible and legal fashionWhat's wrong with this statement? Who's allowing what? Last I heard, being an illegal alien was ILLEGAL. I.e., not allowed. This woman should get the book thrown at her. Set an example.
Ride on, Berridge...

"Motorcyclist killed by illegal alien. WOULD A LICENSED ILLEGAL HAVE GIVEN HIM A BETTER CHANCE?"
If this illegal alien had not been in this country this accident would have never happened. Plain, simple, and indisputable.
