It wasn't the CIA. Surely, the Mossad planted the bomb, to make Islam look bad. Or maybe the Mossand AND the CIA.

Surely not! Why, Spain capitulated and gave in to the terrorists so that they would be left alone. How can this be?!

Sarcasm off now. Glad they found it before it went boom.

It's now a matter for Spanish law enforcement to handle. Serves them right. I hope this is a good example to the Kerry kool-aid drinkers that law enforcement without military force doesn't work against terrorists. The politicians in most of Europe have not served the safety interests of their people very well and Kerry wants to use the EU model for dealing with terrorism. The American media will make sure the sheeple don't get this message.

The train in Spain falls mostly on the plain.

Apologies to Spain.

against Spanish interests in Morocco

As you know, Spain is keeping sovereignty over the cities of Ceuta and Melilla in the Moroccan coast. I never understood the why; all I knew was that some of my friends and a cousin were sent there (at least at the time there was a draft in Spain, I don't know about it now)to fight the ragheads. It has been an undeclared war, with Moroccans shooting at the Spanish soldiers, and the Spaniards shooting back. I wasn't surprised at all when I read that some of the suspects arrested came from Morocco!

Remember that island off the coast of Morocco? Just a little rock, but some Moroccoans started using it and if I remember correctly, Spain sent in their special forces to protect it.

Ah yes, here is the story

Many Spaniards already regret their vote, so this could be significant.

Whether or not they regret their vote, and whether or not this event proves to be significant, they are stuck with the results of their vote until the next election. A cautionary tale for those of us here in the United States as we approach our November election.

Spain's new rulers are just taking their seats today. What an interesting welcome/test. I'm sure the Socialists will respond as they always do... weak to real threats, tough to their own people. Mr. Shoemaker has already indicated that he intends to rid the country's government of any religious content or symbolism, and has made gay 'marriage' one of his first priorities. This in one of the most religious and conservative nations on Earth.

The Spanish are probably starting to doubt their vote... but it will do them no good. They have no recall provision. In fact, it will be surprising if the Soc's give up their power next election -- or even ALLOW the next election. Unfortunately, the rest of the world's lefties won't learn from their mistake. They never do.

Spain's ambassador to the UK (a marqués who is himself a member of the PSOE) resigned today to protest the new turn in Spanish foreign policy under Zapatero.

Personally, I doubt that ZP will be able to fulfill his promises to the left. He made these promises when there was no possibility that he would be elected, and basically, he could say whatever he wanted. Now that he's in charge, he's beginning to realize that this is no longer a theoretical matter.

Interesting times ahead.

Morocco will be a problem. Spain has contributed a decent amount of money and resources to Morocco, but nothing has come of it. The Moroccan monarchy (which is actually only some 50 years old) is making a show of cleaning up its act, but it's still pretty corrupt. However, knowing which side its bread is buttered on, it's not being overtly anti-Western and has cooperated in some investigations. I think this is mainly because the monarchy is also a target of AQ.

Many Spaniards are worried about Morocco making an advance on Spain now. Most of the press and the international community laughed about the defense of Persíl (the little island that the Moroccans tried to take over, whose name means "Parsley" in English), but it was actually intended by the Moroccans to be the first step from Morocco to the mainland. The only country that supported Spain was the US. It seems that France (to whom Spain first appealed) and the entire EU would have been perfectly happy to have Morocco advancing across the Strait unopposed and swarming up the coast of Spain.

The US-supported Spanish action kept Morocco back. But I don't think it's going to be holding Morocco back for long if ZP alienates the US. On the other hand, it may be that the strategic importance to us of the Strait (in any case, partially controlled by the Brits) is so great that we will continue to help Spain, regardless of the stupid statements of its Socialist leaders.

Spanish chicken with rice

The can of tomatoes gives it the Spanish touch, along with the rice. A simple recipe for a satisfying skillet supper.
