[history]
April 12, 2004 -- President Bush yesterday said there was no "actionable intelligence" in the CIA memo on al Qaeda that he got a month before the Sept. 11 attacks. "Had I known there was going to be an attack on America, I would have moved mountains to stop the attack," Bush said in his first public comments since the Aug. 6, 2001, memo was released Saturday.

In the Information Age and whereas globalization speeds events at lightning speed.
The U.S. Commission on National Security/21st Century was the most paramount policy undertaking ever in the US. They and Congress, while evaluating venerabilities to the dynamic changing security environment to the United States, failed by moving as fast as it could. Too slow and too late.
If Bush could have moved mountains, why didn't he press security for the HOMELAND prior to 9/11?

"-- I would have moved mountains to stop the attack," Bush said--"
And Clinton said "--he's going back in his mind over and over again about whether there was something more he could've done,--"
After eight (8) years of dealing with over 5 terrorist attacks, Mr. Clinton could not indicate anything fundamentally that he would have done differently "given what U.S. intelligence knew about Osama bin Laden and the al Qaeda threat, the source said".
This commission will have to earn my respect and so far it has failed!!!

"Had I known, I would have moved mountains" It pays to read the quote as given.

I'm glad to hear President Bush say this.
We need to see him, unflinching, as he spits these words into the socialists' faces.
Again and again and again.

After the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, which killed six and injured 1,000; President Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
After the 1995 bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed five U.S. military personnel; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
After the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing in Saudi Arabia, which killed 19 and injured 200 U.S. military personnel; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
After the 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in Africa, which killed 224 and injured 5,000; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
After the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, which killed 17 and injured 39 U.S. sailors; Clinton promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished.
Maybe if Clinton had kept his promise, an estimated 3,000 people in New York and Washington, D.C. that are now dead would be alive today.

It's too early for your nonsense.

If there was such great info in this memo, then why didn't the FBI and CIA stop 9/11? Like, duh....!!!!!!!!!!!
To: Happy2BMe
As we talk about the memo and the assignment of blame, have we all forgotten about the Democratic plan to string the commission along? The Republicans fired one or two of their people for exposing the plan, then business as usual. The Republicans sit back while it plays out, with the Democrats becoming increasingly partisan. Then the Republicans come on TV and say they have been soooo nice.
I would like to make a prediction. The 9-11 commission will turn into a political witch hunt against President Bush. Who could have guessed?

If Bush could have moved mountains, why didn't he press security for the HOMELAND prior to 9/11? You mean like missile defense systems and the such that hit so much resistance in the Congress? You mean like dropping out of the antiquated arms treaties with the Soviets that were tying our hands that met with so much resistance from the Comgress?
Grab your ears and pull real hard until you hear a "POP", then clean the s**t out. Maybe it will help you think more clearly.

The CIA and FBI were hobbled by decades of proscriptions enacted by Democrats. The result was an intelligence system rotten to the core.
The big question now: is the system fixed?
The 9/11 Circus Commission isn't interested in that question. They are only interested in New and Imaginative Ways of Blaming Bush for Everything.
But I hope somebody is asking that question everyday: is the question fixed?

Come on now. History really began after the 2000 elections. Clinton can't be held accountable. It wasn't his fault. He didn't do it. Be quiet and let TomPeterDan do their job.

If Bush could have moved mountains, why didn't he press security for the HOMELAND prior to 9/11?Because, to use John Lewis Gaddis' analogy, the nation hadn't yet had its Samuel Johnson moment.
Depend upon it, Sir, when a man knows he is to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind wonderfully.

After Clinton failures and the 2001 attack on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, which killed 3000 and injured thousands more, Bush promised that those responsible would be hunted down and punished no matter where they are or how long it takes.
And he's doing it!

I saw him speak and he looked terrible. His facial expression and tone of voice showed he was incoherent. This is just some constructive criticism, but Bush needs to study Reagan. The Great Communicator knew how to present himself to the public, and in today's 24/7 election campaign the President needs to be on the air waves more, and look Presidential. Everytime he goes to Crawford, especially when troops can't come home from Iraq, it hurts his image with the American public. We can't afford to lose this election!
To: endthematrix
He expected the government employees from the outgoing Clinton Administration to be patriots. But, as we have recently observed, it ain't necessarily so.

Everytime he goes to Crawford, especially when troops can't come home from Iraq, it hurts his image with the American public. What? Bush is the first president to leave town for the weekend? Good grief, the man can take a couple days to spend Easter with his family. These Crawford "vacations" aren't your get away weekends because he brings the WH and his duties with him. He visited with the soldiers at Ft. Hood. He spoke to the press. He continued to recieve daily briefings. But nooo, the media is all over this and you're falling for it. At least he's not napping during meetings like Reagan.
To: M 91 u2 K
I don't know who you saw, but the President I saw/heard was not incoherent.

"I am satisfied that I never saw any intelligence that indicated there was going to be an attack on America, at a time and place. Of course, we knew America was hated by Osama bin Laden. That was obvious. The question was: Who was going to attack us, when and where and with what?" Bush KNEW !!! ... < /humor >
