She won't be required to renounce her Canadian citizenship.

How's that? I thought the oath of citizenship included a renunciation of foreign citizenship.

Doesn't her Hepatitis C make her ineligible? I'll have to check my books on that, but I think that may be the case.

Officially in the US she will have to renounce her loyalty to her former country. Canada doesn't have to recognize that renunciation, though, but as far as US law is concerned, she will be a US citizen only.

You're a bit late. She's already been sworn in as a US citizen and this story has been posted several times already.

She won't be required to renounce her Canadian citizenship.

I bet she gives it all up after reading the oath for naturalization.

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the armed forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

Naturalization Oath of Allegiance to the United States of America

Today she is having her final interview in the citizenship process.

Why doesn't she just go to Mexico and swim across the Rio Grande?
