Nuclear arms reportedly found in Iraq

BAGHDAD, July 21 (UPI) -- Iraqi security reportedly discovered three missiles carrying nuclear heads concealed in a concrete trench northwest of Baghdad, official sources said Wednesday. The official daily al-Sabah quoted the sources as saying the missiles were discovered in trenches near the city of Tikrit, the hometown of ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. "The three missiles were discovered by chance when the Iraqi security forces captured former Baath party official Khoder al-Douri who revealed during interrogation the location of the missiles saying they carried nuclear heads," the sources said. They pointed out that the missiles were actually discovered in the trenches lying under six meters of concrete and designed in a way to unable sophisticated sensors from discovering nuclear radiation. The sources said al-Douri, who is related to former Vice Chairman of the Iraq Revolution Council and Saddam's right-hand man Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, was captured after Iraqi police intercepted an e-mail message in which he set a meeting with another former Baath official. The report could not be authenticated by the interior ministry or the national security department, but the paper noted Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshiar Zibari made a surprise request recently to Mohammed el-Baradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, to resume inspections for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

if this is real - not (out)fox(ed), and it happens days before the Dim convention and the day before the 9/11 report, then I nominate Karl Rove to be the next UN General Secretary for utter unbelievable brilliance.

IF this is true I'll be flying out the Democratic Convention and become part of the protest outside. If this is true I would hope every Freeper does likewise.

Grammar isn't the only problem with this article: "The three missiles were discovered by chance when the Iraqi security forces captured former Baath party official Khoder al-Douri who revealed during interrogation the location of the missiles saying they carried nuclear heads,"

One discovers something "by chance" as the result of an accident, bumping into it or by just being Hans Blix. These missiles were recovered after tracking down, capturing and interrogating a Saddam Regime operative. That sounds like a plan to me.

If so facto, they were probably made in France. France should now be added to the Axis of Evil.

they could have been nuclear missles from pak or nkorea waiting for the enriched uranium... would still have been a trigger for 1441 and war.

I agree it's too early to get excited. I would doubt that these are Nukes. They are probably just some type of missile that contains radioactive components. On another note -- I always assumed that we wouldn't find anything until the Iraqis were running the show. It will look better if the Iraqis find the WMD.

Its either that or we are hiding them in order to "stage an accident" in another country like Syria.

"I refuse to get excited over these early reports. We've been burned too many times."

Agreed. Recall the "Paki's report Osama captured" thread.

Keep your powder dry people. I want solid proof of this story before I begin bashing the Lying Dems with it.

False. This one doesn't pass the smell test.

Think about it. Saddam has three nuclear missiles, and he buries them under six feet of concrete???? It'd be nice if this was true, but the sourcing and the siple unbelievability of the story means its bogus.

If it turns out to be true, $1000 to FR from me. But unfortunately, my money is safe.

That's why I think this story is going to turn out to be valid.

Am sure Katie Couric is leading with this story this AM.

The story has now made its way to the top of the Drudge page. If there's anything to it, this story is about to blow!

"No. Just ask the NYT. The 30 sarin shells are not WMD."

Hello, I haven't heard about this. Do you have a link to that story (I can't seem to find it).

Is it because Drudge is still in bed that there is no siren on his website and he's still leading with Clinton's reaction to Berger?

Seriously this story is much too good to be true. If they've found nukes why is the paper saying Iraq wants the inspectors to return to their work. Hell, if you've got three nukes you show them to everyone, NOW. Why is there no comment from the Coalition HQ? I'm sure they read the Iraqi papers. No one in HQ thought to send anyone ove to the Iraqi Defense Ministry to inquire. Lastly there's 10,000 press people in country. They may be libs, but they kill for a story like this. Why no followup from western news sources?

I think someone put one over on UP and the Wash Times.

Proof positive that we am out of our fricking minds. First thing we think about is the election. Takes a few minutes for my brain to think -- holy shit, how many more are there, and are we safe?

will be reported in Saturday NYT after theatre reviews on page 27e.

- Probably could not be in fireable condition after being buried.

- hey, they were under concrete - so how could they possibly be a threat - Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!

- Michael Moore warned us about such Karl Rove tricks...

- Don't third world independant countries have a right to defend themselves against monsters like the USA and Israel?

- How bout them Yankees!
