You all might be amused to know that this joke letter was accepted hook, line, and sinker, by Heather Mallick, a columnist for The Globe and Mail, in Toronto:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/TPStory/LAC/20040724/MALLICK24/Columnists/Columnist?author=Heather+Mallick

"The Aladdin says it won't have her back. When Michael Moore wrote to the theatre to defend freedom of speech and offered to sing America the Beautiful onstage with Ms. Ronstadt, casino president Bill Timmins responded with a misspelled, illiterate letter that twinned Jesus and George W. Bush and insulted his own famously fat customers by saying Las Vegas has thousands of all-you-can-eat buffets that Mr. Moore might like."

I posted a comment to The Globe and Mail, basically because I didn't like how the author portrayed the letter, and the fact that the dumb girl didn't do her research to actually confirm with Timmins' office whether the letter was real:

In your online article "Where have all our heroes gone?", Heather Mallick states "casino president Bill Timmins responded with a misspelled, illiterate letter that twinned Jesus and George W. Bush and insulted his own famously fat customers by saying Las Vegas has thousands of all-you-can-eat buffets that Mr. Moore might like".

If you would check out the following link, you would see that the actual author of this "letter" took credit and said, "LOL! Sorry everyone. I should have written, 'Suggested reply to Moore's letter.' I Didn't mean to create a fib". He also said, "Yes, this is a joke. I tried to post this publically that this was a joke but I guess it is only getting to the people who I replied to".

I would like to recommend an amendment to this article to inform the reader that this "letter" did not actually come from Timmins personally, although as the author states, "I doubt Timmins feels any different than what was posted".

I think it should be attributed properly, and that the proper research should have been done before any columnist declared that an "illiterate" letter of response was given by Bill Timmins. It paints a picture of the responding party as ignorant, and since it wasn't Timmins' response in the first place, I don't think that's fair. My personal opinion is completely aside from this request. I do not want to think that a publication such as yours is in the habit of disseminating false information as fact.

Thank you.

Anyway, I love the letter, I find it very funny and I'm sure that Timmins WOULD feel the same way. I hope they take my recommendation and edit or amend the article.
