The criminal probe into how and why former Clinton national security adviser Sandy Berger illegally sneaked classified documents out of the National Archives is going forward despite a report that no originals are missing, officials say. "The investigation continues. It's irrelevant whether or not there are originals missing. What matters is that removing classified documents without authorization is illegal," a government official said.
The Wall Street Journal on Friday quoted National Archives spokeswoman Susan Cooper as saying her agency is "confident" that no originals are lost but she couldn't be reached and other officials declined to confirm that claim.

YES!! Don't give up!
What's in the archives pertaining to klinks' giving Hi-Tech to china? This an act of treason.
Still MORE news coverage to the "dead"/"no legs" story. :-)
"Nothing to see here, move along, move along," (Picks up papers that have fallen out of his socks) "I said THERE'S NOTHING TO SEE HERE!!!"
What difference does it make whether the originals were stolen or not? If Berger took copies of the DRAFTS, as has been reported a likelihood, then he has probably covered up for changes that Bubba made.
The fact that some originals were in the Clinton Library puts up a BIG RED FLAG. Top Secret documents in the Clinton Library?? Whose to say that his originals are the REAL documents and not altered etc.. Bubba is not exactly known for his truthfulness.
We all assume that everything is microfilmed and/or scanned immediately but I do not believe that is the case.
Every time I read this I want to scream. Does Berger think we're all morons?
I agree, I thought the article (and the "announcement" on ABC that he had been "cleared") were clearly Dem attempts to make the whole thing go away. Essentially, they said he had been "cleared" (by whom? how?) of something that no one really claimed he had done in the first place in the case of certain documents.
It was known that these were not the originals, but the point is you can't take any of them, and certainly are not allowed to haul them home and destroy them, original or copies. You're not even allowed to take your own notes out of the Archives.
Expect the Dems to keep dribbling out little bits of misleading non-information until Berger is actually before a grand jury (and then, hopefully, charged) and they can deny no more.
Well?..Yeah.
..after all, Bubba Clintoon was reelected in 1996, AlBore was almost elected (tried to steal the election) in 2000, $hrillary Clintoon was elected to the Senate...and hopes to be crowned Pres. in Jan. 2009
..fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, shame on me.
monday am bump
What in the world does that have to do with BURGER stealing classified Docs?
What is amazing is why more people do not hold the press accountable for their obfuscation on this matter.
So... Berger "accidentally" stuffed docs in his clothes, went home, copied them, and then returned the originals? Just how stupid do the Dems thing people are?
Have the Liberals looked in Bergers shorts for all those missing chads? More than coincidence? I think not...
Actually, what the Archives has said is not inconsistent or unbelievable, if the reporting is to be believed.
What the Archives is reported to have said is that the documents which Berger removed were photocopies; it was able to replace the removed copies with additional copies of the original documents.
This, however, in no way lets Berger off the hook and it raises additional questions about the integrity of the replaced documents.
Seeing a qualifier makes her statement questionable. Anyone who thinks these Archivists know what they have is just plain ridiculous. (You mean they can read top secret papers?) Of course not.
What a lot of people don't realize is that too large of a percentage of the Wall Street non money writers were probably hired and trained by Al Hunt.
I became aware of this during the 2000 election and cancelled my WSJ subscription until Hunt is fired, and the WSJ cleans out his underlyings and sends them to the NY Slimes.
