Blazing Bunny Spreads Cricket Club Fire

LONDON - A rabbit set alight by a bonfire at a British cricket club got its revenge when it ran burning into a hut and set it ablaze destroying costly equipment, the club said on Friday.

Members of Devizes cricket club in Wiltshire, western England, were burning dead branches when a rabbit caught up in the waste sped burning from the flames spreading a fire which destroyed lawnmowers and tools worth 60,000 pounds ($110,000).

"After it had been going 5 minutes, the rabbit shot out of the bonfire on fire and went into the hut which is our equipment store," club chairman John Bedbrook told Reuters.

Two fire engines were called to extinguish the blaze. The rabbit's skeleton was discovered in the charred hut.

"The firemen were certainly concerned about the rabbit. They felt sorry for it," said Bedbrook.

Good for the rabbit. They've not been doing so well in cricket lately. Maybe this will spur them on to action.

Like the scene in "The Crew" where the wise guys send a burning rat into a house they want to destroy.

>A rabbit set alight by a bonfire at a British cricket club got its revenge when it ran burning into a hut and set it ablaze

The difficulty to think at the end of day,
When the shapeless shadow covers the sun
And nothing is left except light on your fur

There was the cat slopping its milk all day,
Fat cat, red tongue, green mind, white milk
And August the most peaceful month.

To be, in the grass, in the peacefullest time,
Without that monument of cat,
The cat forgotten on the moon;

And to feel that the light is a rabbit-light
In which everything is meant for you
And nothing need be explained;

Then there is nothing to think of. It comes of it-self;
And east rushes west and west rushes down,
No matter. The grass is full

And full of yourself. The trees around are for you,
The whole of the wideness of night is for you,
A self that touches all edges,

You become a self that fills the four corners of night.
The red cat hides away in the fur-light
And there you are humped high, humped up,

You are humped higher and higher, black as stone—
You sit with your head like a carving in space
And the little green cat is a bug in the grass.

They've not been doing so well in cricket lately.

We've actually given up the habit of doing badly, which is rather odd, and most Englishmen can't quite grasp that our team is doing well.

The winter tour was to the West Indies where we played 4 tests:

West Indies: 311 and 47
England: 339 and 20/0
England win by 10 wickets.

West Indies:208 and 209
England: 319 and 99/3
England win by 7 wickets.

West Indies: 224 and 94
England: 226 and 93/2
England win by 8 wickets.

West Indies: 751/5dec.
England: 99 and 137/5
Match drawn (though to be fair, it's rather unlikely that we could have pulled back from that first innings.

This summer we played New Zealand four times:

N.Z.: 386 and 336
Eng.: 441 and 282/3
England win by 7 wickets.

N.Z.: 409 and 161
Eng.: 526 and 45/1
England win by 9 wickets.

N.Z.: 384 and 218
Eng.: 319 and 284/6
England win by 4 wickets.

We have also played the West Indies twice:

England: 568 and 325/4dec
West Indies: 416 and 267
England win by 210 runs.

England: 566/9dec and 248
West Indies: 336 and 222
England win by 256 runs.

The Third Test against the West Indies is currently on-going. Rain has stopped play, the West Indies have batted to 275/6 in 70.5 overs.

All in all, not too bad a set of results.
