Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry said Saturday that his daughter Vanessa has won a Fulbright scholarship to study medicine in London. Vanessa Kerry is a 27-year-old Harvard medical student who frequently travels with her father's campaign. According to the Fulbright Web site, about 1,000 U.S. students are awarded the federally funded fellowships each year of about 4,500 who apply. Kerry told reporters traveling with him to a long weekend vacation in Idaho that Vanessa recently found out she was one of this year's winners.

She won't even show up. She'll hit that Peter Principle like a freight train, outside her safety zone of lackies and toadies.

Merit based? Surely, you jest?

This young woman has taken a year off from Harvard med to campaign w/her father. Now she's taking a Fulbright to study in London. Given their terrible health care system, can't say it'll teach her anything. But then, she's a lib -- she knows everything already.

The Fulbright Scholarship is more of an exchange program than scholarship program

For instance, she will go to the school over there, and a student from over there will come over here, in her place.

They exchange living accomodations, etc.

Why would she accept the scholarship when her parent (s) are able to buy the school?

Being a Fullbright Scholar opens many doors, regardless of the money.

Assuming there was nothing political about her selection, I don't have a problem with her taking the scholarship. She ought not have to decline because her parents are wealthy. I don't think the scholarship is need-based.

Wow, that is freakin' fantastic. For a poor girl like Vanessa, I mean, her dad and his wife are worth a mere $1 Billion, it must come as a relief to know she won't have to dig into their little nest egg in order to go to school. How wonderful for her.

Isn't this special? I can understand being proud if she was accepted but that she won a federal funded scholarship?

It 'ain't me.
it 'ain't me
I ain't no Senator's son (or daughter)

It 'ain't me, It ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one

Kind-of makes me think on how friends of Democrat politicians get certain "perks". I wonder if she'll record some photo-ops for future reference.

This is totally outrageous and should shock every Democrat in the nation. A billionairess gets a federally funded scholarship.... Why isn't Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton speaking out against this outrage.

Ah yes...but the children of billionaires need your tax dollars too. Really warms your heart when your own kids have to work their way through a state college, doesn't it? Yes, that's Lil' Johnny Edwards's two Americas alright: The conservative one who believes in working for everything they get, and the liberal one who believes in taking everything they can from the worker bees.

I heard this news on my clock radio as I awoke this morning.

My fist thought was. Why would the step daughter of a billionaire even apply for this? Why not permit a more needy candidate to have the chance at this Scholarship?

Greed, selfishness, arrogance,etc. ????

One less scholarship for an American who can't afford higher education.

A big thank you to the daughter of a man who married a multi-millionaire and then a billionaire.

What's the matter, John could not come up with tuition. Maybe he should of sold that mountain bike to cover the books.
