5 years back I asked the nice police lady in Bellevue WA how many they issue. She said about 6-8 a week. 40% are women. So I estimate there is at least 1-10 people in this surrounding area that have a pistola with them at any given time.

Actually, it would be nice to carry any way/where you want. In fact, I'd support an amendment to that effect.

When I lived in CO from 1968 through 1977, I used to carry my Walther PPK on my belt, and my buddy had his Browning Hi-Power in full view also. On the way to the range, we'd stop at a diner for lunch. Local cops and troopers occassionaly stopped in. No problem-o. We'd talk about our weapons, etc.... Today, it's a little different, isn't it?

Sure is. A Blackhawk on the hip would certainly draw some attention in Albertson's these days.

My guess is no criminal record and demonstrated need is the minimum in most areas.

You guess? How can you "guess"? Reminds me of people who "assume." Do some research. I'll give you a hint: In the state of NC, there are over 30,000 CCW holders. and there have been ZERO incidents of deliberate or accidental shootings.

I just love the people who think I'm advocating taking the guns away.

I'm more in favor of sending casual gun owners to the firing range until they know how to respect and handle their weapon responsibly. With the exception of violent criminals and the mentally incompetent, I don't advocate taking away weapons.

Get real people... Stop reading what I write through the goggles you like to wear.

Do some back reading... I'm not calling anyone with a CCW a casual gun owner.

I just think there are too many "casual" gun owners who don't respect the weapons they carry

Where? Who are they? What are you talking about? How many CCw holders do you know that fit your description? How many legal gun owners do you know at all. You sound like diane feinstein

My guess is no criminal record and demonstrated need is the minimum in most areas.

Around 70% of states are now shall issue which means that if the applicant meets the requirements of CCW, the permit must be issued. Requirements usually include a training class. There is no good cause or demonstrated need required.

I posted your words. If you don't want them to sound like VPC propaganda, then think before you post. You are a gun-grabber.

Then I stand corrected. I live in Hawaii where demonstrated need isn't even reason enough.

My wife and I always took the Ruger New Super Blackhawk .357, 6-1/2" bbl with us when we'd go camping in Utah (bears, dontcha know). I never wore it in public. Only the PPK, even in Larimar Square (Denver). Never had an issue with an LEO.

Any person that goes into the National Parks needs to read this:

http://www.rangerfop.com/danger03.htm

Especially the parks on our southern border.

And I can attest that the management in Big Bend is willfully allowing illegal aliens to commit crimes in the park. Their words "The Rio Grande is NOT a national border, but only a feature of the landscape."

Coconut thinks that we shouldn't be "allowed" to have a gun without passing a gov't safety test and paying a fee to the gov't.

There was another thread on this whole issue.

I was out in Arches NP last year, and loved it, and want to go back to Utah. What other parks out there would you recommend?

I believe Washington state has one of the highest percentages of CCW holders of any state in the country. I think the reason for this is that the fees are inexpensive, especially when compared to other states.

Hopefully Florida will have reciprocity with WA soon.

Almost as bad here in California. Good cause is required, but issuing discretion is left to the county sheriff. In the more rural counties, the sheriff is essentially shall issue; others you have to have suitable political connections; and some there is no good cause that is acceptable.

Interesting reading. Thanks for the link.

All the more reason for the gov't to recognize our Right to carry there.

Honest citizens would be much more inclined to help out a Ranger in danger if they knew they weren't going to get harrassed about having a gun.
