If I recall right, it actually says that "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
If your "coma placement" constitutional theory holds up, then the right of the people to keep and bear arms only exists as it pertains to participating in a State-based Militia.

Interestingly enough those commas appear to have been absent in the original copies, but that is another argument. We really can't expect much more from modern politicians.
