Hmmm...Just scrolling down the latest comments. There have been three trolls zotted in the last several hours:

Now, I'm no FR historian (call the famous [infamous?] Lazamataz about that), but it would seem that today's troll quotient greatly exceeds the average evening zottage ratio.
The question, though, is why? Why are we suddenly hit with such an outpouring of fecal matter? Could the DUmpers be angered at the fact that we just broke the forgery story, exposing, yet again, blatant media bias (my congrats to Buckhead and Howlin on that one)? Could it be that they are overjoyed at the anniversary of America's worst day ever? Or perhaps its just coincidence?
Who knows, and, frankly, who cares?

The trolls are going to get worse in the coming weeks. They are even sticking their feet in the water first now. (I'm referring to the "test" post that was pulled).

conservative getting national attention brings the left dolts out.
A day without a ZOT is a day not worth living.
My guess is that the performance issue is mostly the
slashdot effect (newmedia sites naming FR in news).
But sure, trolls are up. The forgery charges are
devastating, and the libs are following the old
Clinton "then we just have to win" mantra.
This came up earlier re: performance ...
If you think there's a problem now (and I don't, but then
I'm on 28.8 dial-up), just wait until the opposition
creates zillions of new users accounts to spam FR with
trolls faster than the admins can delete them.
It may be necessary to suspend new account creation for
3 days leading up to the election, or at least delay
issuance of credentials by 24 hours to discourage
those keen on trolling.
I'd also look into suspending the ability of idle
accounts (no posts lately or ever) to create new
articles. There may be sleeper accounts.
I think you make a good point about suspending new accounts for awhile. It is possible that the new user may be a conservative who has heard about FR and is honest about joining in, though, and not disrupting. It's definitely food for thought.
