Big local debate about the name. Apparently, Senators is still owned by the Texas Rangers and is inappropriate since DC isn't represented in the Senate. They're suggesting names like Federals, Statesmen, Nationals, etc.

I suggest they be called the Washington Democrats because they're likely to continue losing for at least the next four years.

So what. Washington is where the Senate IS. The Senators WAS the name of the Washington team historically. Those are actual reasons for naming it that....the garbage about "not being represented" in the Senate is not an actual reason.

It is a stupid political argument that hides a desire by a certain party to get two more guaranteed Senate votes. Washington is a Federal city, it is not a sovereign state and should never be one.

Thank God that DC, not northern VA, got stuck with this boondoggle.

Team Name: Washington Welfare Kings

Yep.

Fortunately, part of the political fallout from weasel Warner's tax hike was that he kept his head down on this issue (he was in favor of sticking the taxpayers so that Virginia could be "Major League", or some such nonsense). I hear that on the monthly "Ask The Governor" program on local radio yesterday, the chief flack for the Virginia stadium bid accused Warner of "stabbing us in the back" (gee, join the club).

The Washington Lobbyists would be good. There's a hell of a lot more of them than there are Senators and the real members of the Senate aren't going to pay for the luxury boxes they'll sit in --- the lobbyists will snatch all them up.

Their mascot could be some little guy in Gucci shoes handing out cash instead of teeshirts.
