It seemed simple enough. Falls Church officials recently drafted a policy that would require city workers to call 911 immediately if anyone stepped onto city property carrying a gun. Police who responded would check to see if the gun was properly licensed and report their findings to city officials.

About 30 people, pistols strapped to their hips, strode into the council's meeting this week protesting the policy and warning that it violates their constitutional right to bear arms -- and possibly state laws, as well.

No, as a matter of fact I haven't been. And have been reminded of that several times today, thank you.
I've lurked every now and then for a few years, but never decided to actually get a user name. I thought about it, and came to the conclusion that the Freep site was a bit too much of a free-for-all to suit my tastes.
But y'know what, now that I've been exposed to a good ol' pile-on, I have to admit that I was overly reluctant to sign up. It's kind of like a hazing, I guess.
I should have signed up long ago.

You didn't see me cite any rules. I simply am saying that it was disrespectful for you to use the term "shrub" when talking about the President. I know you have apologized.
You believe in the right to keep and bear arms. Even a blind squirrel gets an acorn occasionally. Where do you stand on all other issues?
This is a private web site for conservatives. If conservative members here refer to demonrats or sKerry that's their business.
Just imagine how intimidated they'd feel if they actually outlaw those guns and TRIED to take them from 150,000,000 Americans.
OK. Fair enough.
All other issues? This could take awhile....here's a quick list of the hot button isues.
Abortion: I oppose it. On religious grounds.
Taxes: I would definitely prefer a national sales tax, in lieu of what we have now. I don't think that's going to happen. Too many politicians have too much to lose by changing the existing system.
Gun rights: not a purist, but close.
GOP: A political party. In business to get it's candidates elected.
George W. Bush: Personable fellow and far brighter than his detractors credit him with being. Disagree with certain policies, especially with regard to RKBA. Spends too much money for a conservative, compassionate or otherwise.
Ronald Reagan: Man with a vision. Classic example of how history looks at things through the rear view mirror. He will be credited as a much more influential (and better) president than he was ever credited with being while he was in office.
Iraq: We're there, we need to win, so second guessing what we shoulda or coulda done is a fool's errand in my book. What to do in the future is a fair topic for debate.
Social security: I think that you need to have some special provisions for those on the bottom rung of the economic scale, but that doesn't mean that everyone else should sit on that rung as well. Some privatization makes sense, but I don't think it'll happen.
Health care: I think there should be some sort of universal health coverage that's better than what we have now. We already have a sort of universal coverage that costs us a mint; no one gets turned away from a hospital. And we all pay for it, albeit indirectly whether we like it or not. Smarter to acknowledge that reality and try to reduce the overall cost. How to do that is THE $64k question. And I don't pretend to have the answer.
Enough hot button topics? I'll be happy to answer specific questions...but for now, it is after 1:00 am...

Falls Church in a mini police state. Never drive over the speed limit (25MPH) on Rt. 7 (Leesburg Pike) between Rt. 50 (Arlington Blvd.) and Rt. 237 (Lee Hwy). because it's ticket city.
Traffic normally flows at 35 mph to 45 mph but all of a sudden Falls Church sneaks in a 25 mph sign in there and your getting a ticket.
Never caught me yet, however I've seen many others pulled over by the POLICE.
P.S. I never travel into Fall Church for anything, EVER!
