Nope, not any campaign would. I would report this to your local FBI, if they called you they probably call others. FBI could check it out.
i agree... that was a scandal ... maybe not from the Kerry Campaign, just some crooks looking to get some money off ya and fraud ya ... also watch out for people calling just to get three numbers off your credit card, three numbers off the back .. if they have your mailing address already and like a home number, they just need those three numbers, I read...they dont even have to have anything else...so rule of thumb, dont give out anything unless you are absolutely positive it is legit, you did a good job of asking for a website, etc...
I got a call to that effect, but used my best Laurel & Hardy scripting and proclaimed that I was financially embarassed!
That is how I would've handled it also... I tell them I don't do business over the phone and I contribute online or by mail only. I would've been suspicious myself.
That doesn't sound good. I haven't found the Bush/Cheney people to be that way.
There was some PAC that called me, being sort of that way. Pushy, I mean.
I think it was Newt's PAC.
Definite scam. Advise your states Attorney General consumer protection office
Send this to the RNC immediately!
This may be related to the computers that have been stolen from the different headquarters.
Scam....i've gotten many calls from bush/chenny..that's not their operating procedure...
bttt
"Just got a call from someone professing to be Bush /Cheney campaign headquarters. They thanked me for my help in the past and asked me for a donation of $150.00. I said I couldn't give that much and they asked what can I give and asked me to give them my credit card number"
Sounds bogus to me. Telemarketer was way too pushy.
First...if you don't have caller ID I'd *69 to see if you could retrace the number...I get a lot of calls from GOP organzations, GOP-PAC, etc, and they go through a three minute speel before asking if I'll contribute and never ask for a card number up front...the giveaway that this is a fraud was the "it won't hit till the end of the month" bit.
I would also be wary of PUSH-POLLS that the Dems will be doing Posing as Pubbies.
I received the same call last night. The ID read "Out of Area". The gentleman stated that emergency funds were needed...began the call exactly as yours did thanking me for donations in the past. He had a difficult time taking no for an answer. I finally hung up on him. It has been bothering me since receiving the call, and now, with your post, I do believe it should be reported.
Crawdad's Wife
Also, the name is clearly identified on caller ID.....
Report this!!
Hit *67. You should be able to trace the call.
You know, I've gotten several very pushy calls from Bush/Cheney. Very pushy. I donate through the materials they send me, not over the phone. One day I got stuff in the mail. I sat down at my computer and got an e-mail request. While I was reading the e-mail, I got a Bush/Cheney phone call wanting money. I told him I had the literature. He kept pushing. I finally got so mad that I said, "I obviously don't have enough money for you folks, so just leave me alone" and hung up. Three requests for money in 5 minutes really ticked me off, and I almost wrote a complaint letter.
Now I'm wondering if these annoying, pushy calls are even legit.
Folks, if you ever have any doubt, ask the caller for a number where they can be reached. If the call is legit (or the scammer savvy) the caller will give you a victory center number or a campaign toll-free line. If the scammer hasn't thought that far in advance, they'll just hang up.
I would say it definately wasn't the Bush campaign and even as rotten as Kerry's bunch is, I would bet the ranch it wasn't them either
You were contacted by a scam artist.
I also got a call from Bush/Cheney HQ. It was an invite to a fundraiser/party and the caller ID said " PA GOP"
Do you have a caller ID?
