I received the same call last night. The ID read "Out of Area". The gentleman stated that emergency funds were needed...began the call exactly as yours did thanking me for donations in the past. He had a difficult time taking no for an answer. I finally hung up on him. It has been bothering me since receiving the call, and now, with your post, I do believe it should be reported.

I have had the RNC, NRA, and the Bush campaign call me for money in this way asking me if I would like to donate over the phone. I said I didn't want to give my credit card info out, so they agreed to send me a form so I can mail them money. I did recieve the form and made my contribution that way (to the Bush campaign).

The reason they got my number to begin with though was I made a contribution early on (small one).

Once you contribute they got your name in their database and they will constantly barrage you with postal mail and phone calls. I get postal mail from the RNC almost every day. It's sickening.

I wish they got the message I won't give them any more money so they can stop wasting postage on me and use it towards something more productive.

But uh yeah, I suspect that is probably a legit phone call as that has happened to me as well. The reason it may say out of area on your caller ID is because the phone banks are likley to be in Washington DC, as on my caller ID it always comes up a 202 area code, which is DC.
