A poll of Jewish voters in Miami-Dade County, Fla., showed that 82 percent of them will vote for John Kerry and only 15 percent for President Bush.
Coverage of The Miami Herald poll by the Ha'aretz newspaper in Israel drew criticism from the Tikkun Community, a California-based international Jewish organization with interfaith ties.
A statement by Tikkun's Rabbi Michael Lerner said he was struck by the spin provided by Ha'aretz' U.S. correspondent Nathan Guttman.
Like so many people in the media, this reporter appears to see the world through the framework of the Jewish establishment so powerfully that he cannot imagine any way to construe the facts except in a way that will make the Jewish establishment smart and powerful and shrewd, Lerner wrote.
Guttman wrote that the poll should be a surprise to anyone who has followed U.S. politics.
The Republican camp focused its efforts in the Jewish community on only one topic: support for Israel, Guttman wrote.
The poll was part of a larger county-wide poll of 750 likely voters Oct. 22-25 by Zogby International that carried a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points -- higher for the subgroups.
