Hatchet Job on General Aviation Airfields on Fox 35 Tonight
110404 | Me

Posted on 11/04/2004 4:19:20 PM PST by Archangelsk

The Fox affiliate in the Orlando area is going to do a hatchet job on general aviation airfields tonight. Their breathless, stupid lead in (done appropriately by the typical bubble-headed blonde) goes something like this: "They provide easy access for the rich and their airplanes but are Florida's small airfields attracting terrorists to launch small airplanes against commercial airlines!!!!"

Calling Phil Boyer.

If we removed the airfields, we would remove this potential threat. It's obvious!

Wait! If we destroyed all airplanes, then the threat from above would disappear!

But then again, if we KILL OURSELVES, then we will thwart any conceivable course of action by the terrorists!

See?

This is an ultimate freedom constitutional liberty issue of broad general interest.

If we shut everything down, this Country will not be worth living in. If we apply this logic, nothing is safe. If freedom is to survive, we have to be willing to accept a great deal of chance.

It looked like a Class D airport. In the promo they showed a Challenger and a B1900.

Ah, 2000 foot strip, sort of warped in the middle, the AF/D says 70 feet wide (hah!), trees on one side, road on the other, big lake with big reptiles nearby, and top it off with back taxi.

My kind of airport. (Oh, I forgot to mention the cell towers).

And since the GA portion is a big piece (*219,464 aircraft, of which 45,000 are used by large companies...serving over 5,000 airports, 96 percent of which are not served by airlines) of aviation what is her proposal?

*From Air Transportation, 14th Edition, Robert M. Kane, part 1 page 12.

Shall we simply make everyone travel huge distances over land to fly? What about those that can't, like island dwellers, remote areas, etc.

Arrrrgh

"I know guys in GA who are far from "rich." This is typical tripe from folks who know jack all about GA. Twits."

I think that most airplane owners today would be considered members of the "professional" class, if one wishes to think in terms of class, which is the leftist's wont.

The Dems are setting it up so that the professions are now the evil rich, nothing new here, the "bourgeousie" has always been the enemy of the Left.

Not to mention that some of us remember well when the Dems instituted their luxury tax on new planes, driving Piper out of business, costing plenty of blue collar jobs, but not bothering the "rich" too much. Idiots.

I figure the point is just to bring ever more aspects of everything we do under state direction. God forbid that anyone do anything without permission from a bureaucrat.

driving Piper out of business

Piper drove itself out of business by becoming complacent and non-innovative. That's why they've lost their market to Diamond, Cirrus and Lancair.

I was just wondering (since you ask folks to take local action) if this might be a good place to also place the info.
