Conspiracy Theories Abound After Bush Victory (Busts Voter Fraud Nuts)
ABC News ^ | Nov. 9, 2004 | JAKE TAPPER and AVERY MILLER

WASHINGTON, Nov. 9, 2004 -- There were minor voting irregularities on Election Day — long lines, voting machine breakdowns, shortages of provisional ballots — but some people are now leveling charges of voter fraud.

Doug Chapin, a nonpartisan election analyst, finds the claims to be baseless. "There were no problems that would lead me to believe that there were stolen elections or widespread fraud," he said.

"There was no overwhelming reason to cast doubt on the outcome of this election," seconded Democratic strategist Donna Brazile, the campaign manager for Al Gore's 2000 campaign. "George Bush got more votes this time."

Nevertheless, many people have devised various theories, including stories of voters in largely Democratic counties in Florida whose votes were changed for Bush, phantom voters in Ohio and exit polls showing John Kerry in the lead that were truer than the final tally. Off the record, many Democratic strategists dismiss such allegations, but they also know such resentment can be channeled for political use in the future.

According to a DU thread yesterday, Rove engineered the defeat of Dean in Iowa, because Rove knew he would have been impossible to beat in the General Election.

This is as nutty as the "Gore really won Florida" nonsense.

That's my favourite one. They've also put forward the theory that Rove sabotaged Weasley Clark's primary campaign as well.

"Off the record, many Democratic strategists dismiss such allegations, but they also know such resentment can be channeled for political use in the future." Didn't work this time and will not work in 2008.

Wasn't that their strategy for the last 4 years? Didn't seem to do much good and it will be even harder next time since Bush is really the undisputed winner.

Idiot DU'er: "And just how did Rove sabotage Dean, because you can't rig a caucus."

Idiot DU'er deux: "Oh yes you can. You can pretend to be from the Dean campaign, and then call all his supporters in the middle of the night, waking them up and making them mad. Then they won't show up for you. You can force all the editorial boards to endorse Kerry. You can blackmail the Governors wife into endorsing Kerry."

DUmmies got their wish, ABC picked up the story. Unfortunately for them even Donna Brazile dismisses the whole idea of vote fraud.

In a way, I wish the MSM would pick up the "Bush stole the election again" stories.

"George Bush got more votes this time."

He got more votes last time too - at least where it counts. ;=)

The RATs are pushing the eVote fraud myth in order to delegitimize the use of modern polling systems.

This will allow them to continue to use paper ballots in the places where vote fraud is still rampant.

If they can also get their base fired up and/or call Bush's victory into question, that's just a bonus.

Donna Brazile knows that the democrats can't afford the scrutiny.

That makes sense. Thanks

They've got to be kidding. Dean would've lost a larger margin. Dean didn't leave any confusion that he was out of touch with the mainstream of middle america. He would've crashed and burned, and lost PA and NJ to boot.

This is true. If you look closely at Dean's famous video scream, you can see Rove sticking a pin into his butt.

I'm serious, that was the tone of the thread, and the depth of their insanity.

Karl Rove manned a phone bank that called Dean supporters in the middle of the night, just to make them abgry at Dean? And these people think they're representative of thic country?

This is great. I hope that there is a lot of this complaining by the Dems in Wisconsin. Then perhaps we can get voter registration reforms through without a gubernatorial veto! There's more than one way to skin a cat!
