Clinton did a masterful job putting the art of governance into a broader perspective last week at the dedication of his remarkable library in Little Rock. Typically, The Natural performed this feat while winging it, instead of trying to read a prepared speech in a driving rainstorm.
In just a few minutes of oratory while the rain plastered down his hair, the former president managed to say more of consequence than any other political figure has blabbered since the latest ugly election season mercifully ended. Instead of new thinking or deep thinking, politicians have mostly been positioning themselves, thinking narrowly. President Bush ran a parade of promotions of patsies and yes people in preparation for more of the same; Senator John McCain signaled a return to independence by slamming Bush for inaction in the face of ongoing climate change; Senator Chuck Hagel all but announced that he is running in 2008; and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist quietly burnished his credentials with conservative activists by helping make Arlen Specter practically beg to get his chairmanship of the Judiciary Committee.
On the Democratic side, John Kerry signaled he won't ape Al Gore by growing a beard and teaching college kids, but is instead back in action with a Senate statement deploring the budget deficit; and Hillary Rodham Clinton, pre-library dedication, displayed her ability to deliver a tour of the foreign policy horizon in a speech in Massachusetts.

Too bad Oliphant didn't list a few specific examples. Could it be that there weren't any? I don't recall anything X42 said of consequence in 8 years.
"The Natural" is the wrong movie for Clinton. Try "The Grifters" or "The Flim-Flam Man" and you're getting warmer.

I think this sentence perfectly captures a liberal's sense of what is important. Bubba gives a good speech. That's it. There's no more to it than that. It's not what he accomplished. It's what he says. The saying of it, whatever "it" is, is what's important. Good intentions count for more than results. Good speeches count for more than actions.
That's what liberal's need. Soothing words, not harsh reality. If you think about it, that's what you give to a three year old. Soothing words and protection from the real world. A perfect description of a liberal if there ever was one!

I had to memorize a poem by Laura Richards when I was in 3rd grade, it just seemed appropriate to twist it for this blather.
it had been so long since he had been with her; she moved with a lithe sort of jelly grace that had been hard-won from her years of scrutiny and consequently, her absence from the gym. for her, he realized however, the passion for him, the commander in chief, came Naturally...as Natural as the lush plump lips that had so Pleasured him so many years hence...
I cannot help but wonder if Oliphant and Emperor Billigula have someone managed to exchange bodily fluids? Certainly, 'tis a consummation greatly to be desired by the abysmal Oliphant, who hath offered his hindquarters eagerly to the Herpetic Horndog from Hope.

The funny thing about Clinton is that he says things so well but says nothing worth remembering. To quote from Brideshead Revisited, his words are like beautiful soap bubbles that float into the air and then "pop". Really is there anything that Clinton says that you remember five minutes after he speaks? - other than the usual pathetic attempts at evading the truth:

My favorite Clinton barf moment (as there are so many, it is SO hard to choose ), is what he said at the 2000 Dem convention , by way of underwriting the candidacy of Al Gore. "Fiftyfour years ago this week, I was born in a summer storm to a young widow in a small Southern town"
--he then went on to ring further changes on all the overwrought boilerplate we've come to expect from The Great Stainmaker. But there was something that really got me about that sentence, and the misty look Clinton put in his eye: that pukey self-memorializing, as if he is his own best sycophant and instant biographer, following himself around, never letting a moment pass without milking the
audience for approval, or missing an opportunity to turn the light HIS way, let it shine down on HIM. Very little about Al Gore was actually spoken in that speech. He has a lot in common with his ardent supporter Babs Streisand. All her movies for 25 years have been major league Vanity Productions.
Bill Clinton was a zero and will be remembered as such.
What will be remembered about Clinton is nothing about Clinton himself but how many millions of American citizens were so gullible, so weak, so willing to be hornswoggled and seduced by the ultimate snake-oil salesman with a Law Degree.
