Inqlings | Reporter quits at WHYY over angry message
The Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | 11/30/2004 | Michael Klein

A voice-mail message left last week at the Virginia office of Laptoplobbyist.com, a conservative Internet site, went like this:

"Hi, my name is Rachel, and my telephone number is... I wanted to tell you that you're evil, horrible people. You're awful people. You represent horrible ideas. God hates you and he wants to kill your children. You should all burn in hell. Bye."

Rachel is Rachel Buchman, 25, a regular reader of Laptoplobbyist's e-mail newsletter - and a reporter with public radio station WHYY-FM (90.9) for about three years. And she left her office number at WHYY in the message last Tuesday.

"Rachel has decided to move forward with her career and her life."

I always get a kick out of these cop-outs, whether they are when a politician gets his hand caught in the cookie jar or some light is shone on a liberal roach.

Unfortunately, she'll be able to slither under another rock. There are even more disreputable outfits that view a hate crime like this to be a stain of honor.

Her crime, however, puts her in the "Stupid Criminal" category. Was she drunk or dopped up at the time? Did she quit because she already failed some test and knew she wouldn't urine test cleanly this time, either.

My advise to any outfit thinking about hiring this woman in the future, if you claim to have a drug-free work place, is to make sure that you test her carefully. Her behavior here is so hinkey that may be sme underlying problem that you now have reasonable cause to check out.

I've been suffering from SPRAE too! My symptoms started the morning after the election when I walked into the local Starbucks and began whistling "Oh, What a beautiful morning." Now, I burst out laughing whenever I see a Subaru with a Kerry sticker: do they come that way from the factory? Other symptoms include a positively immoderate amount of gloating and a cheerful acceptance of liberal threats to create a mime and ceramicist shortage by moving to Canada.

She sounds like a jerk but I can't help feeling sorry for anyone who does something so stupid. She is very young and I'm sure she is humiliated. She probably thought she was being funny and got carried away. Tough way to learn a lesson.

Humiliation implies a certain amount of shame. Liberals don't shame. They are shameless.

Be kind. Rachel will be 30 in five years and probably have sense enough to change her registration.

LOL! No, they don't. My Subaru's still got the NRA's "Elect Bush" sticker from the 2000 election on it, plus this year's "W '04" sticker.

NPR and Pacifica Radio BOTH get Federal funds. Additionally they are 501c3 charities that are "tax exempt" yet they do not honor the "non-partisan" agreement that affords them this status.

Does it deny them "free speech"? Yes. Churches and other organizations are also shackled in their speech by such agreement for tax purposes.

Defund the left. Stop ANY Federal funds from going to these propagandists and revoke their tax exempt status NOW!

Yes..and don't forget their tax exempt status.

How many businesses would like the privilege of NOT being taxed?

Thanks -- fascinating bunch of numbers. Public radio gets a bit more tax money than I thought. Sorting through the tables, it looks like maybe 60% of public radio money is genuinely not from taxes. I was thinking of direct grants to public radio (~23% according to the table on page 3, not counting money from universities).
