Here's a source where you can purchase tickets to any of the "official" balls for $750 or so:

Well, I will probably get flamed, but here goes..

I really hate to see all the money being raised and spent on the inauguration when we have Marines and Soldiers in Iraq going without armor and such. I would love to see W skip the big party and use the funds for our troops and their families. Spending 50 million for a party while our troops go without seems like a sin.

Last I heard, they have their armor. Fact is, it was never as bleak as the MSM made it out to be.

I understand Jim, but I am talking about the big picture. I really think that having a big expensive party in the times we are in looks bad. W could secure his place in time as a great leader if he were to skip the big party while we are at war and use the donated money in support of our troops and their families. Honestly, spending a fortune to party while our boys are fighting seems a little to Bill Clinton to me. Maybe it is just me because I am here in San Diego and see the role that the Navy and Marines from MCAS Miramar and Pendleton play in the war.

The inauguration is peanuts to the big picture.

Morale among the "grass roots" troops is very important, perhaps more important than most people realize.

Talkin' about peanuts...

A couple of weeks ago I posted a comment on a W2 ball thread, I don't remember who I posted to...

I said that I had a couple of tickets that my dad had saved from one of FDR's Inaugural Balls, but I couldn't find them at the time. Well, today while I was doing something entirely unrelated, I found the tickets! Only they are not Inaugural Ball tickets. They are "Birthday Ball" tickets; a charity ball "for the prevention of Infantile Paralysis."

Anyway, here's a look at the tickets, which were good for admission into one or all of five different balls in DC that night:

$2.50 today might get us a ride on the Metro.

I'm attending with my best friend and my best guy. We'd be happy to have you join us if you are alone. The more the merrier and we all enjoy making new friends. We can set up a recognition signal or something.
