A Day (two days) in the Life of President Bush (photos): 1.11-12.05

Tuesday: The president talked about Social Security reform, laying more groundwork for understanding among the citizenry and their Congressional representatives.

Bush nominated Judge Michael Chertoff to replace Tom Ridge, outgoing Homeland Security director.

President Bush granted The Washington Times an extensive and exclusive interview: Bush: 'I don't see how you can be president without a relationship with the Lord'

Today: President Bush spoke at J.E.B Stuart High School in the Washington suburb of Falls Church, VA, to promote his second-term education agenda under the No Child Left Behind law.

Inaugural dress and gowns info found here! I get my wish that emerald green appears in an inaugural gown, but it'll be on Jenna rather than her mother. However, Laura will wear light green during one ceremony.

CIA chief Porter Goss has jettisoned several advisors, including former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, former Sen. Bob Kerrey, former Sen. Sam Nunn, Joint Chiefs Chairman Adm. William Crowe, and CIA and FBI Director William Webster.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island.

QUOTE: President Bush said yesterday that he doesn't "see how you can be president without a relationship with the Lord," but that he is always mindful to protect the right of others to worship or not worship.

"To keep this country prosperous and to keep this country hopeful, we've got to make sure these public schools of ours stay strong, and we started on that road to strengthening every public school three years ago, when I signed the No Child Left Behind Act."

President Bush and Margaret Spellings, his noninee to replace Rod Paige as Secretary of Education

Tuesday
President Bush listens as federal appeals court judge Michael Chertoff speaks after being named to be the new secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Tuesday. Chertoff headed the Justice Department's criminal division from 2001 to 2003, where he played a central role in the nation's legal response to the Sept. 11 attacks, before the president named him to the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia.

"Highlighting a more conciliatory mood since the re-election of President Bush, the United States and the European Union agreed Tuesday to amicably settle the decades-old trade dispute over subsidies to Airbus SA and Boeing Co. and imposed a litigation truce." (I elected not to post the photo of the airplane.)

Chairs are put into place on the dais where U.S. President George W. Bush will stand for his swearing-in ceremony

Some Barney photos from June 2004

Barney Bush waits for President Bush in the Oval Office; June 2004

With The Boss

President George W. Bush, Vice President Cheney and members of his staff watch Barney play with a horseshoe outside the Oval Office.

Thinking about yesterday's Presidential portrait ceremony, Barney decides to practice standing still for his own portrait (scheduled for 2009).

Barney takes a morning walk on the beach in Sea Island, Ga.

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder consults Barney during a meeting with President Bush on Sea Island, Ga.

In no particular hurry to attend an important meeting in the Rose Garden, Barney plods his way toward the door held open by the ever-patient White House Horticulturist Dale Haney.

Barney reserves some prime real estate while the President is briefed prior to a meeting with the Prime Minister of Hungary in the Oval Office

Determined to be the first dog to medal in the Men's 400 meter hurdles, Barney relentlessly trains for the 2004 games in Athens during his morning workout on the South Lawn of the White House.

It's a good thing the little guy now has a pal!
